Never had privilege; I’ve just been fortunate enough to have an emergency fund. Took me over a decade to save enough, but I have enough now that I could go 3 months without a job.

This is why you don’t plan your life around a job. Plan your job around your life.

The easiest way to learn manual is to focus on one pedal at a time. Learn how to get the car moving using just the clutch pedal alone.
Seriously, don’t even touch the gas until you can accomplish this. Have someone in the passenger seat to operate the handbrake so that you don’t even have to worry about the brake pedal. Just operate the clutch and nothing else. If you can manage to get going from one pedal without stalling, you’re already 90% of the way there.
The next step is learning when to shift, but that comes naturally with practice. Eventually you’ll become in-tune with the sounds the engine is making, and then knowing when to shift becomes second nature.

Yeah no I just use the Steam app for authentication.

Since when do you have to link your phone number to your Steam account? I’ve had an account for as long as Steam has existed, and I’ve never been asked to provide my phone number.

Skill issue. The feature is still in Good Lock, an app that everyone with a Samsung phone should have installed.

As do I. Sorry, but KDE’s HDR support is trash; half implemented at best (and it doesn’t even support AutoHDR nor RTX HDR). Until that changes, I will continue to dual-boot Win11 and Arch.
Linux makes more sense for the GF than me, because her laptop has a basic 60Hz SDR display. It’s the perfect OS if you don’t have modern hardware.

- Comment on End of 10 is a campaign to move people over to Linux with Windows 10 support ending 6 days ago:
How can I convince the GF to switch? She only plays The Sims and the occasional hentai game; her Skylake i5 and 1050ti are more than adequate for those tasks. Yet she refuses to switch; won’t even let me install LTSC to buy some time.
I think she just wants an excuse to buy a new laptop. She’s the kind of person who replaces her shower curtain every six months, rather than do the sane thing and simply wash it. I’ll never understand such a wasteful mentality.

I’m glad that you found a medication works for you. Happy to hear that the dark thoughts are gone. I’ve been searching for over 20 years to no avail.
I’m not going to kill myself but I am tired, oh so tired. I just want to be able to wake up one day and feel like everything is okay, without immediately turning to substances the moment I wake up on a work day.
Tried sobriety for a month, and lost my job because of it. Without weed and Kratom I literally cannot function in the workplace. Some minor inconvenience happens; I lose my shit and quit. But when I’m buzzing everything is just fine. Not great, but good enough to get through the day. It’s pathetic. I just want to be able to feel good like my coworkers do naturally. I want to socialize and make friends instead of isolating myself all the time, even with drugs.
I’ll look into “Headspace”; thanks. (Is it an app?)
- Comment on I.... what? 6 days ago:
You can “get over” depression? Please tell me how. I can’t find a single prescription pill nor therapist that helps, so I just vape live resin and shove Kratom powder down my throat to get through the day.

Ticket and snack prices still suck, but there’s been some major improvements in projection and audio tech since 2009. Digital is almost as good as film now. Brighter colors, deeper contrast (not quite as good as an OLED, of course, but better than your average TV now), and projectionists actually bother to align the screen properly and use the correct lenses now. Lot fewer people in the audience, too.
The days of a blurry, washed-out image with crushed blacks are over. (The seats even recline now!) If you don’t already have a giant OLED paired with a proper 7.1.2 Dolby Atmos system, then it might be worth giving theaters another chance.

I’m just not going to buy it. Boom.
If a game comes out that I really want to play (doubtful; I haven’t enjoyed a Nintendo title since the GameCube), I’m pirating the fuck out of it.

I went out of my way to buy a LightScribe drive for my 2008 build (C2D E8400, 4GB DDR2 800, AMD HD 4870, Vista Ultimate + Linspire), and I never even used the feature. Burned less than a dozen discs total as well.
I feel like optical media died around that same time. Netflix introduced its streaming service, torrents entered the mainstream, and MP3 players replaced CD players. Didn’t even bother with an optical drive in my 2014 build (i5-4670K, 16GB DDR3 1866, GTX 780, Win8.1 + Ubuntu). Current build doesn’t have one, either (7700X, 32GB DDR5 6000, 4090, Win11 + Arch).

Next time just use a Switch emulator. Sudachi is a good one.
You can even download Fitgirl Repacks of Switch titles that include the emulator already set up and ready to go. Literally just a one click install and you’re playing.

The same thing happened with the Wii U but it still flopped. Nintendo’s hardcore audience believes that the company can do no wrong, so they will always be lining up to be the first to get their latest system.
For the console to succeed, Nintendo needs to sell to more than just their core fan base. They need to convince the every day, casual gamer that their machine is different enough from the last one for them to even notice the Switch 2 isn’t the same thing as the Switch. It already happened to the Wii U. Most people who aren’t following this shit thought that it was just an addon for the Wii. I think it’s going to happen again.
They also need to convince console and PC gamers that their system is unique and powerful enough to hold its own, and they’ve already failed on both fronts.
That’s why I think it’s going to flop. I hope I’m right.

This was my dad but thankfully he had ADHD, so he’d forget to hold a grudge after a day or two. Still, it was annoying that every single minor inconvenience was this great injustice made torture specifically him. He definitely was a narcissist with a healthy dose of main character syndrome thrown in for good measure.
- Comment on Palworld confirms ‘disappointing’ game changes forced by Pokémon lawsuit [VGC] 1 week ago:
I have a feeling that it’s going to flop like the Wii U. It’s nearly the same as the OG Switch and in both the looks and performance departments. 4K 120Hz support, my ass
It’s got less than 10% the CUDA cores of a 4090, a GPU that can’t hit 120 FPS in any modern AAA title without DLSS. The console won’t even come close to hitting 120 in any title, not unless Nvidia creates a DLSS setting more extreme than Performance.
As always with Nintendo, It’s all going to come down to the games, and given that Nintendo has been slapping a fresh coat of paint on the same games since the Wii, I doubt anyone but the most hardcore fans are going to be willing to drop $80 on them. A good chunk of the Switch’s top selling games are literal re-releases from the Wii U. Tears of the Kingdom is literally the same game as BotW, even has the same map. Laziest sequel ever. It should have been a DLC.

Again, it’s coming to PC. Every GTA game comes to PC eventually. Rockstar purposely waits 6+ months to announce the PC version, because they know people like you will double dip. It happens every single time, and you keep falling for it.
I’m not saying that Rockstar is in the right for doing it this way, but they keep doing it cause you keep forgetting that they do this every time. The downvotes prove it; none of y’all ever learn. That’s why I’m so annoyed.
- Comment on Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 1 week ago:
Unless you have no plans to play Online, the money you’ll spend on Shark Cards trying to catch up with established players will far exceed $80. That’s why I stopped playing GTA V Online—I got tired of grinding for cash, just to keep up with the people who dedicate their lives to one game (I refuse to spend money on microtransactions in any game).

It’s coming to PC about a year later; chill the fuck out. You goldfish do this with every GTA release. It’s annoying as hell.
- Comment on Grand Theft Auto VI Trailer 2 1 week ago:
Y’all have been doing this with every GTA release since the very beginning of the series. I don’t know why everyone keeps falling for it. The PC port is coming; it always does. Most likely around Q4 2027, or Q2 2028 at the very latest.
Rockstar does this because people have very short term memories. They’re banking on your forgetfulness so that you’ll buy the console version, and then the PC version as well when they announce it a year later. The Rockstar double dip is their signature move.
