When you’re a cop, you get to hurt anyone who upsets you in any way. The law is secondary, if it shows up at all. You’re a tool for indiscriminate violence.

He must look like an aging lesbian. They’ve blurred his face in every picture.

Ah…a touchy subject.
GarfieldYaoi@hexbear.net 10 months ago
“You snowflakes need to grow a thicker skin!”
“Hold on, you’re insulting ME! THAT’S ILLEGAL BUDDY!”
So they expect us to be tougher than them?
moondog@hexbear.net 10 months ago
These cops would never survive in a CoD lobby.
drekly@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Alright.
So why are there like 8 police officers in the house before the content is even said?
Why was this fragile person with scoliosis and severe autism out, pissed up, past midnight on a Monday night in Leeds city centre?
I have no idea, but to play devil’s advocate, it kind of sounds like this kid is a piece of shit and got arrested for it, and the parents are hiding her behaviour behind the autism shield for sympathy.
_xDEADBEEF@lemm.ee 10 months ago
I’m suddenly reminded of that dying man who mooned a speed camera only for loads of police to swarm his house later on.
AllonzeeLV@lemmy.world 10 months ago
I’m jealous of you guys that this is a scandal there.
We Americans would just be like "She’s still alive!? Cop must have got laid that morning or something.
echodot@feddit.uk 10 months ago
We will get there don’t you worry.
The UK police don’t have the funding to attrace the uterly ruthless. It isn’t reall fair.
zaph@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Nah Americans are crying about it and terrified it’s going to happen here. They’re cool with black people getting brutalized but now their worried their homophobia (not saying the girl was homophobic) is going to get them beat up. Kind of poetic.
DanielCF@discuss.tchncs.de 10 months ago
Reminds me of Elijah McClain, he had autism. He was killed by police in Colorado via asphyxiation and ketemine. Not ketemine he had taken, no, they injected it to sedate him. I’ll bet you can guess his skin color too.

And the filth wonder why nobody trusts them and everyone hates them.
qaz@lemmy.world 10 months ago
“Upon returning her to the address, comments were made which resulted in the girl being arrested on suspicion of a homophobic public order offence. The nature of the comments made was fully captured on body-worn video.”
So they justifying their behavior by calling her homophobic?
Microw@lemm.ee 10 months ago
I’m not from the UK, what is a “public order offence”? Can that encompass anything “disturbing the public order”?
RobotToaster@infosec.pub 10 months ago
Not the first time they’ve pulled this kind of stunt, a few years ago an autistic teenager was arrested for asking a trans PCSO if he was a boy or a girl. walesonline.co.uk/…/teen-prosecuted-after-asking-…
Pratai@lemmy.ca 10 months ago
That’s a solid burn though.
OofShoot@beehaw.org 10 months ago
It’s not even a burn, if the officer is older they could very well look like that girl’s lesbian grandmother. And if they do, so what?
watson387@sopuli.xyz 10 months ago
Exactly. The girl was stating a fact and it reminded the cop of when he used to get made fun of in grade school.

keepcarrot@hexbear.net 10 months ago
I can’t believe this girl said her lesbian grandmother looked like a pig
Reva@startrek.website 10 months ago
Girl: “Hey you look kind of like my grandma :)”
… How is this in any shape or form offensive? Let alone homophobic? Fucking cops, man.
Blackmist@feddit.uk 10 months ago
Especially in Leeds. That policewoman is probably about the same age as her grandma.
argv_minus_one@beehaw.org 10 months ago
Sounds to me like it’s the police who are homophobic, taking “lesbian” as an insult.

Funny burn, awful treatment. Shame on the police.

galmuth@feddit.uk 10 months ago
Awful. Being autistic she may well have meant it at face value without it being an insult, and not understood what she did wrong as she just stated a fact. Then being dragged out while she had an autistic meltdown :(
Even if she did mean it as an insult and wasn’t autistic, there’d be still no need to drag her out and arrest her. She’s a kid. Educate her, sure, but there was no need to escalate it.
Kuori@hexbear.net 10 months ago
“now honey, what you said was deeply offensive to your grandmother. she doesn’t look like a thumb-cop!”
temptest@hexbear.net 10 months ago
The bottom line is, the victim having autism and being young is irrelevant in the sense that no-one should be treated like that for such a trivial insult.
It’s obviously still relevant, the victim is particularly vulnerable, making the abuse so much more obviously callous and disgusting. But I say if this happened to Joe Citizen, it would also be horrific.
Colour_me_triggered@lemm.ee 10 months ago
I’m an autist, and I very well might have meant it as a burn.
Iama_fish_ama@beehaw.org 10 months ago
The article mentions drink was involved - I don’t know if its the neurodivergence or just me, but I could definitley find myself saying that if met someone who looked like my gay Nan while having a pissed up panic attack
BarrelAgedBoredom@lemm.ee 10 months ago
That is a pretty sick brurn though. Good on ya, autistic lady whether you meant it as an insult or not. Sorry about the pigs throwing a temper tantrum
johnbrownwasright@hexbear.net 10 months ago
You shouldn’t call cops “pigs.” Pigs are intelligent and loving creatures
jumperalex@lemmy.world 10 months ago
Fixed that for you.
gaycomputeruser@hexbear.net 10 months ago
Lol fuck off allistic
Grimble@hexbear.net 10 months ago
Yeah fr i was thinking 'yeah that’s EXACTLY what an autistic person needs after getting manhandled and detained- a SCOLDING LECTURE over WORD CHOICE! Woohoo!
Respectfully to the commenter, we get enough of that shit from regular people already. For some, on a daily basis. Sometimes it’s just bc they feel like guilting someone. So at least for me, that kind of ‘lesson’ wouldn’t go down without some bile (which I’d prob force back up into someone’s face in that situation).
galmuth@feddit.uk 10 months ago
I meant that if the girl was neurotypical and meant to insult the cop, then the cop talking to her would still be a more proportionate response than assault and arrest.
NuPNuA@lemm.ee 10 months ago
If this girl is so far gone she can’t stop herself from accidently being homophobic, why were the parents letting her out to drink on the street at midnight?
Commiejones@hexbear.net 10 months ago
You think people with a limited verbal filter who speak their mind shouldn’t be allowed to go out at night or drink alcohol?
I think ableists shouldn’t be allowed on the internet.
AOCapitulator@hexbear.net 10 months ago
What about “you look like my gay grandma” is homophobic?!
Iama_fish_ama@beehaw.org 10 months ago
I’m sorry what?
You clearly read the article to know she was intoxicated, so you must have also seen the kids words quoted as "you look like my Nana, she’s a lesbian.
That’s oversharing, people do that on a normal day, let alone that she was an intoxicated neurodiverse child having a panic attack. Without context it’s not an insult, with context its a child being manhandled while in distress.
It seems like you have a problem with her as a person for either being a drunk teenager, neurodivergent or possibly something else? Kids fuck about, the consequences in this instance should be a hangover and a stern talking to, not assault and arrest.
puff@hexbear.net 10 months ago
Saying someone looks like someone else who happens to be gay is not homophobic… You’re homophobic for thinking it is.
