the thing about terraria is that the devs love to play as much as the players. so they love the game and are always interested in making the experience better. not just for the players but them too.
they’re also not a massive corporate run, shareholder-pleasing company either. so they actually listen to suggestions from fans. it’s the best.

They’re also in the enviable position of having made a game with some of the highest profit per employee in history, so they’re not under the pressure that most are.

They’ve been saying it’s the final major update for the last like 4 major updates
RarePossum@programming.dev 1 month ago
They’ve been saying it since 1.1.2. In 2012. There have been 12 major patches since then if you count all the 1.2.X patches as one.

Me too. It’s probably been 10 years since I’ve last played. I have a solid 64 hours played and no achievements completed. Maybe I should check it out when this update comes out. It’ll probably feel like a brand new game at this point.

10 years ago was like back when hallowed armor was endgame and mech bosses were the last bit?
There’s so much more content now that honestly makes the entire progression completely different
Theres also a wealth of mods now that acts functionally as a whole new game as well (calamity being the biggest one)

I love the game I just hate having to build the houses and manage the people. It’s not creative it’s just make these boxes in this certain way.

I tried to get into terraria so many times, but this 2d perspective is just not doing it for me. For the same reasons, I don’t play metroidvanias and platformers. There are some platformer that I like, Gris, for example, but that’s not exactly the same. I have no problems with Core keeper or Stardew valley, so the genre is not the problem. I need to reconcile with it and accept that some games are just not for me.

same.

I bought Terria years ago for like $3 while it was still beta testing/first launching. I have played over 900 hours and still get use out of that. Some of the best $3 I’ve ever spent

I was so excited for the game that I got ahold of a leaked alpha before the game released and played that. And then of course pre-ordered the game and played it immediately when it released.

I was just scrolling on Steam one day and saw it. Loved the music and the aesthetic and when it went on sale (back when the Steam sales were mindblowing and Newegg was also mindblowing), I got it. Love it so much but these days I use TEdit/a map editor to make pretty designs on my worlds. I have a lava swamp in hell, a drag stage/nightclub in hell, several glittering giant forests (snow, fairy, and halloween), an erupting volcano, an amusement park off a pier, lots of planets in space, and my mushroom biome is starry night themed.
Meanwhile my brother in law plays huge pvp campaigns, and I had a friend who made those puzzle haunted house type maps. You can do so much in that game it’s wild.

Just a heads up (and sorry) but 1.0 released in 2011, 13 years ago. It was more than years ago when you purchased it. Again, sorry.

What?

1.4.5 is a major update? Then why isn’t it 1.5.0 or 2.0.0? Use semver, people!
Nelots@lemm.ee 1 month ago
Well, Terraria 1.4 was initially going to be version 1.3.6 until they kept adding more and more. This could end up the same way.
Railcar8095@lemm.ee 1 month ago
The problem is that they have been for far too long “just one last small change” that then ends I’ll becoming huge.
From 1.0 to now it has changed enough that it could be a complete sequel.

Wake me up when they add a non-binary option.
People said it couldn’t be done because the game was finished, that was determined to be a lie.

Make a mod for it or something
RandomVideos@programming.dev 1 month ago
“More inclusive and customizable character creation that allows players to mix and match different character styles and voices. A third new voice type and the ability to change the voice’s pitch are also being added”
Does this count?

That does help!

Has anyone played this with a controller? It seems like the aiming would be awkward.
