Then why are you getting angry while checking this sub and this post? Seems like you’re also getting worked up over it.
To be clear - this story came up in my feed because I have an interest in gaming, I wasn’t checking the sub directly nor looking to talk about the Nintendo Switch 2.
If I didn’t have my life’s struggles right now, I would still not be excited by the Nintendo Switch 2 because I think it’s a lacklustre upgrade. I’ve never been one to buy on launch and I know I will be able to afford the Switch 2 one day, it’s just a matter of figuring out how to save up or waiting for the price to drop…
I shared a story of how one of my longest friends ignores real problems myself and another friend live through because he’s sorted for life’s problems and doesn’t have to worry about anything other than buying himself a Switch 2. I said I envy people who have it that easy - and people decided to start personally attacking me before I decided to share my side. I’ve done my best to only reply to genuine people and not react, and I think I’ve done alright in that regard…
As for the economic angle - I really think that while a technically correct example, the Nintendo Switch 2 just doesn’t hold up because it’s not a necessary device for life. The iPhone is a far better example of necessary goods, that will suffer greatly etc.

I’ve also seen this specific news story on multiple websites and on TV in the past 24 hours. I’m sure it was shared on Lemmy in goodwill, but the original news story is most likely from a marketing press release that was made to get us talking about the cost of the Nintendo Switch 2.
If Nintendo don’t like buzz this story creates, they will adjust the pricing accordingly. We’re all just cogs in a machine. I’m just a part that couldn’t take the stress and made a noise.

I’m in Australia and my spouse has been on the waiting list for surgery for nearly 3 years - unable to walk more than 20 metres, unable to work. I’m the sole earner for our household.
So yeah I get there are differences in privilege. What I’m saying is that I envy people who don’t have to worry about their survival. I am not sorry I came off harsh about it, I am hurting right now and the responses I’ve received have only amplified the rage I feel at the privilidged.

I don’t blame the historians anymore, I blame the societies they published their work in.
Imagine telling Victorian era people about South East Asian queerness. They’d have you hanged just for describing what you saw.

But I’m too prudish to use a urinal.
That’s how fucked up western culture is.

A little bit, yeah. Trump supporters are also very desperate people, many of them turned to the dark side due to grievances with the world. And not all of them are always imagined. The wrong part is the conclusions these people come to and the way they go about correcting what they think is wrong…

Just as easily applies to queerness and gender expression too. My favourite part on the these specific issues is the ignorance in the west, acting like being trans and queer is uniquely American and new.
Meanwhile South East Asia is right there…

Leonardo DaVinci was born in the 16th century and yet he came up with flying machines too. It’s a very different problem to have a key person, or five, who have vital engineering and design knowledge versus the numbers needed to uphold an industry. I was more talking about the latter.
You might produce a few geniuses to write your whitepapers - but you need scores of them to manufacture vehicles, bridges, roads, buildings, etc.
Donald Trump’s Gilead is not going to inspire anyone to become a software engineer in a time when we’re celebrating AI replacing jobs. Trump and MAGAs vision will not drive the world to do business with America - it will drive investors and new customers away, shrinking the US tech industry and eroding American dominance.
- Comment on The indian and white uniting as one with a $500 Billion budget 2 months ago:
I find it really funny the US are trying to maintain their global position as tech leader while in the midst of a fascist take over. You know what’s incompatible with a thriving tech industry? Fascism. You can survive a little while after a take over, but eventually your rigorous little Christian commune of a society isn’t going to produce engineers, scientists or anyone with a taste level worth a damn.
- Comment on Why we need term and age limits 2 months ago:
It’s really demoralising scraping by as an IT person in a western democracy, and then realising the outsource contractors your company hired for cheaper have a much better life than you. Simply because their earnings hold up better with the cost of living where they are.

- Citation needed, literally everyone’s got different equipment. Some people are more sensitive, others less. Some people get piercings in their back to increase sensitivity, others are already so ticklish they shiver just from the touch.

Religion is mostly to blame, but I think some of those religious teachings have been integrated into institutions and secular society as well. Notions that self gratification is a treat and not a need, the perception of masturbation that it’s some teenage boy temporary phase and not for women or older married men. The idea that it can’t be a social activity at all, even though it’s free and safer than drugs.
