The datacenters struck were Yandex ones. They hosted a lot of web crawlers, not really social media bots.

A few less tankies, otherwise the same
Oppopity@lemmy.ml 2 weeks ago
The exact same because it was a search engine that went down.

Unfortunately fediverse.observer went down about a day back. But there was a noticeable drop in Lemmy activity. From memory it went from 53k to 50k or something like that. Now you’re gonna ask “50k of what?”, well I don’t remember. Perhaps posts or comments.
I wanted to see per-instance but they didn’t seem to track daily stats per instance. And now it’s all gone 🙁

So this is why Elon has been so upset over it.

that, and x.com numbers probably took a plunge

Apparently there’s no large drop in disinformation bots since the data centre strikes. Yandex bot traffic does not equal disinformation bots.

There were reports about considerable decrease in engagement with far right social media accounts. Those servers did not exclusively do search indexing. I think at this point it is not clear if this really had a significant effect or not on the Russian Psyops.

Most far right comments aren’t even containing the party, they spread disinformation and whataboutism and strawmans. They reinforce rightwing narrative

Nobody talks about the Facebook concerned mom groups that slowed. Making lonely trad wives feel useless again.

It’s ok, I’m sure they’ll fall into the real bad guys known as ChatGPT, Grok, Gemini et al.
You know, the USian companies that have admitted to hacking government entities, being addictive platforms with no guardrails, unethically polluting the environment beyond repair—and all to “beat China”. 🙄🙄🙄
