Time for a bit of medical education

Life hack: use more than one, at the same time, arbitrarily, whenever you feel like it, unprescribed
.
please don’t actually do that
captainlezbian@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Unless you’re allergic, in which case remind them.
I’ve been prescribed meds I’m allergic to way too often.
Hapankaali@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Really? Seems I can’t step a millimetre in a doctor’s office without them asking if I’m allergic to anything (turns out that being allergic to stupidity isn’t an issue when it comes to medical treatment).
DragonAce@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Antiboitics are prescribed on a case by case basis and aren’t designed only for specific infections, I’ve been prescribed Levofloxacin and Doxycycline before for severe sinus infections.

Amoxicillin is used for way more than the examples shown - UTIs, dental infection, stomach ulcers, even Lyme disease. That’s the main one I know.
Soulphite@reddthat.com 6 days ago
It says “broad spectrum”; while listing a few examples… what’d you want it to list every single thing it covers? ‘Broad’ means wide variety.
Corporal_Punishment@feddit.uk 6 days ago
Amoxicillin is up there twice. Once for “broad spectrum”. The other seems to only be for ear, nose and sinus infections.
The graphic is shit and misleading.

You’ll note that the common cold, norovirus, and influenza aren’t listed. Don’t ask for antibiotics.
Soulphite@reddthat.com 6 days ago
People often confuse viral infections as bacterial infection… instead one would require anti-viral. I’m sure it’s just people not knowing what ‘biotic’ is referencing.
CompactFlax@discuss.tchncs.de 6 days ago
I don’t think it’s that deep. “I feel ill. Give me pill” and the doctor give something that cures syphilis, so it must be good.
PotatoesFall@discuss.tchncs.de 6 days ago
Yeah also generic anti-virals don’t exist like they do as antibiotics. There’s no cure for the common cold.

Talk to your doctor before taking ciprofloxacin if you or family have EDS. It can do a number on your tendons
Broadfern@lemmy.world 6 days ago
Cipro is brutal. Last time I took it 2 days in I felt like my tendons were disintegrating. I couldn’t even pour myself a cup of coffee without crying.
I was able to take it a couple times before without too much issue, but Jesus it doesn’t play around.

What’s Pemicillin? Never heard of that one before. /s

i get this is c/lemmyshitpost, but there is nothing here that screams shitpost, and this is not how antibiotics work and it’s not how they are prescribed.
Drusas@fedia.io 6 days ago
And one of these is an antifungal, not an antibiotic.

never a good look when the shitpost sub upvotes “informative” slop
