Ha! Just finished Thank Goodness You’re Here and it was the silliest, raunchiest, Northern Englishest?? thing I’ve played in a while. It was a bit of a fever dream. Like an Adult Swim cartoon with a joke a minute that you’re sort of “playing.” There’s not much in the way of controls and yet it was still incredibly satisfying how you unexpectedly interact with this bizarre world. Everyone in this town is off their rocker yet also loveable? I don’t even know how to describe it it was so unique. I guess just play it if this at all sounds intriguing. Short, but a completely wonderful way to spend a few hours.
Thank Goodness You're Here - most absurd & hilarious game what did I just play?

Thank you. And a fuck you to the main op from the deepest parts of my heart for not adding the link.
Snowpix@lemmy.ca 15 hours ago
That’s weirdly aggro for something it’d take you, like, 2 minutes at most to look up and find for yourself. You don’t need to rely on OP or anyone else to do it for you.

Chill my dude, that kind of unwarranted aggression isn’t going to be good for your health

Peans. Not quite peas, not quite beans, but something special, in betweens
AllNewTypeFace@leminal.space 20 hours ago
Peans is a dessert.

The ending was pretty great, and I darn near slapped everyone and thing I could. Not the least bit replayable but extremely memorable and enjoyable!

Every now and then, I yearn for something a bit silly and light and I’ll pop it on for half an hour. I haven’t fully replayed it more than twice though haha.

That endless song! And the gummy was kicking in…I could have broken that clock for ages.

Oh dear oh dear, it’s really brok

I remember seeing in the beginning credits one time how it’s based off of a novel and thinking “huh I wonder what its about?”
And then going back in to the bakery store and the woman was saying “its about the interpersonal conflicts of everyone living on the same street its very moving, nothing like this shite”
peetabix@sh.itjust.works 13 hours ago
I remember watching the film as a kid, Kes. Maybe the book has the same name.

One of the voiceactors has a crazy comedy podcast thats been running for ages called Regular Features.
Can recommend if you like the humor, since one of the devs is a fan of that show and got inspiration from it.

Said voice actor also runs a pub in Nottingham, the King Billy! And now I must depart BUZzzzzzz

I listened to an episode last night and it tickles the same absurd funny bone, loved it! I feel like there’s a touch of the absurd or whimsy in the British humor that I respond to, even though not being British I often don’t understand some references. Case in point, I love the podcast Three Bean Salad.

I watched Game Grumps play this game a while back and found it very funny. Certainly a labor of love
linkinkampf19@lemmy.world 19 hours ago
It’s unfortunate they never finished it. 2 eps then poof. Game is right up their alley with the humor.
Zahille7@lemmy.world 19 hours ago
I was also disappointed by that.
Thankfully RTGame has a full playthrough and stream VOD uploaded. It’s actually who I watched play it first and I instantly fell in love
Honytawk@feddit.nl 15 hours ago
But why? The game is like 2 hours long at most.
popcar2@piefed.ca 19 hours ago
Loved the game, but… we don’t talk about that cow scene…

I can’t stop thinking about the last time you straighten up the fishmonger’s shop! 😂

Reggie’s wife could learn a thing or two.

Brilliant, original game.
Certainly never thought I’d play a game with “On Ilkla Mooar Baht 'at” as part of the soundtrack!
Gradually_Adjusting@lemmy.world 21 hours ago
Ooh how exciting.
I’m tempted, but I’d want to share in the fun with my kid. Anyone who’s played it, What’s the youngest you’d recommend?
MurrayL@lemmy.world 20 hours ago
I wouldn’t say it’s suitable for kids - there’s a lot of innuendo and crude visual gags. Mid/late teens probably fine, but it’ll depend on your tolerance.
Defectus@lemmy.world 19 hours ago
I played it with my 6year old. She absolutely loved it! And so did I.
macncheese@lemmy.world 14 hours ago
Some of the humor is quite adult but not explicit. I’d expect a lot of it to go over a kid’s head tbh and they’d probably laugh at the silliness. But you, the adult, know what you’re truly laughing at. And if you’re okay with that then the choice is yours.
Honytawk@feddit.nl 15 hours ago
As soon as they can hold a controller and know somewhat about what a game is.
The controls are moving in a direction, jump and slap. And you can’t do anything wrong at all.

As a Yorkshire lass living in Manchester, you have me intrigued with this description. Hell, I’m more than intrigued — you’ve sold me on it
macncheese@lemmy.world 1 hour ago
Oh you’ve got to play it! Then report back and let me know how it went. I guess the folks that made it are from Barnsley. These means nothing to me as a foreigner, but this game charmed the pants off me.
