- Comment on Sword Art Online being a primarily single player series 8 minutes ago:
Then you have Solo Leveling, a franchise entirely about one guy grinding dungeons alone, making a multiplayer co-op game.
The jokes really do write themselves.
- Comment on Microsoft’s Xbox to Shift Obsidian Studio to New ‘Fallout’ Video Game 2 days ago:
I don’t know why anyone would work at one of these studios. Obviously people are staying because the jobs are still lucrative but who is it that’s walking into these super unstable jobs under a company that’s been doing nothing but layoffs and shutdowns for the last few years?

- Comment on Resetting XBOX - Compulsion Games and Double Fine to go indie again, Ninja Theory and Undead Labs "to join new ownership" 4 days ago:
At this point I don’t know what Microsoft has been doing lately that isn’t about laying off thousands of people, but at least I’m very happy that all these companies have been spun out of Xbox. Double Fine might not be a 10/10 studio, but it’s great that they’re indie again and not part of a bipolar company that keeps threatening every company they own with layoffs due to management’s bad decisions.
In addition, Mojang and King will now report directly to me.
I appreciate how direct this post is compared to your average corpo-speak, but wow that sounds threatening as hell LOL.
Today, in some parts of the company, work passes through as many as 14 layers of management. […] We will reduce management layers to no more than 5, and where possible, 3.
14 layers of management is insane. Isn’t that like a month of going up and down the chain for simple decisions? No wonder they take forever making one game that turns out to be mediocre.
There’s a lot of talk about focusing on their bigger projects and being more hands-on with studios, which is worrying. Usually management messing with development makes the game worse.

Audio is another big one. If you want good quality music and your game is voice acted you would be surprised how much space all those audio files take. Add in tons of other gigabytes if you offer voice acting for other languages.
- Comment on It's not about physical vs digital games, it's about ownership 5 days ago:
There will definitely be a niche market for physical games, but yeah I was thinking about the average person and their experience. Especially since PC has shifted very early, I think most people would prefer to download a game in half an hour than having to go to a store and buy a physical disk and have to constantly put it in/take it out every time you want to play something else.
For Nintendo, I have genuinely despised their game key card approach. From a preservationists perspective, it’s a waste of money. However, getting a code in a box is a massive joke. Sony actually succeeded in making the concept of a GCK looking like a solid alternative. I really don’t know how to feel about that lol.
That’s funny, I had the same exact thought when writing this. The game key card thing sounds so stupid that my first thought was “damn, I hope they don’t get away with this”. My second thought was “wait, this might be the most consumer friendly option on consoles soon. Damn.”

- Comment on Is the Switch 2 a waste of money? 1 week ago:
Telling people to buy a Steam Deck used to make sense, but it doesn’t anymore when it’s twice the price of a Switch 2 (I say this as a Steam Deck fan).
- Comment on Physical disc production ending in January 2028 for new games releasing on PlayStation consoles 1 week ago:
I’m with you, this is an insanely ballsy move. One of the biggest pros of a console is that you could still buy physical games and trade it with friends or sell it used to someone else. If everything is going digital, what’s the point?
Here we even have a local chain that rents you physical games for a week at a time…

The spec difference between a PS4 and a PS5 was pretty big, SSD aside.
- Comment on Sony Signals It’s Not Prepared To Sell PlayStation 6 ‘At Significant Losses’ 1 week ago:
I would kind of understand it if the PS5 Pro doesn’t already exist. There’s already a high end expensive PS5 to play modern games at very high graphics, why would Sony make a PS6 any time soon if it’s just going to be the same thing? There isn’t any performance leap that would make it worth getting.
- Comment on Game suggestions: Downvote any game you've heard of before 1 week ago:
Levelhead is a Mario Maker-esque platformer with a huge emphasis on user-made levels and a very powerful level editor. It’s not too active right now but there’s thousands of awesome levels already made that you can play. The game is dirt cheap, too.

- Comment on GTA 6 Price Finally Confirmed, Features a 'Single-Player Experience' at Launch 2 weeks ago:
This has some serious “GAMERS RISE UP!!!” energy. It’s a video game, and people on Lemmy need to calm the hell down. Buying games was never about “actually standing up for what’s right”. Get off the high horse.
used to make good games… now they make stores and money pits with graphics and mechanics slapped on top.
Their last game was Red Dead Redemption 2 and it was critically acclaimed and loved. I don’t personally care about GTA 6 but I can see why people would be excited for their next game.
- Comment on GTA 6 Price Finally Confirmed, Features a 'Single-Player Experience' at Launch 2 weeks ago:
But if they’re describing it as a “single player experience” it’s going to be a shitty offshoot of multiplayer instead of a ring campaign that has a multiplayer slapped on.
This is a massive stretch with zero evidence…
- Comment on Steam Machine pricing announced (from $1049-$1428 USD), reservation lists open 2 weeks ago:
Could’ve been worse I guess. I know they did their best considering ridiculous market conditions, but it’s a hard sell if this was meant to compete with consoles, you can still buy a normal console for roughly half the price.
In terms of being a prebuilt gaming PC, it’s not bad. Some people have said a similar spec PC is roughly $100 cheaper if you get everything yourself. Now the question is how much stock Valve actually has to sell, because I assume they won’t have that many made because of the component shortages…

It really is such a weird show, I’ve watched a couple of random episodes and every single one is just:
Entrepreneur: I’d like to introduce the tablet magazine! It’s like a magazine but it’s a tablet for some reaso-
Guy on the left: This is the stupidest thing I’ve heard in my entire life. You should end it all today.
Old man who unironically calls himself Mr. Wonderful: I’ve heard enough. I can give you a loan of $200k, but I want to own half your company and get your children’s souls when they die.

I played a demo for a game called FISH which is a 2D run and gun, it’s one of the most insane things I’ve played. Highly recommended to people who love silly and surreal games.

Octopath Traveler 2 is basically a modern retro Final Fantasy game. Made by Square as well.
- Comment on What is a game that you know is bad but really enjoy(ed)? 3 weeks ago:
Not sure if this counts because it’s not that bad, but Final Fantasy 15.
I can’t even begin to explain how much of a complete mess this game is. The combat consists of mashing buttons and teleporting away when you’re low HP, the open world is very big and isn’t that interesting, it’s a mess of systems that don’t work together because this game had a very troubled development, and the story is borderline incomprehensible - the last third of the game felt like I was skipping cutscenes. The few dungeons included were also terrible. Oh and there are parts in the game where you literally have to wait entire minutes in a car waiting to go from point A to B.
And yet, I played through the whole thing, it was weirdly relaxing. Whenever it wasn’t trying to be a final fantasy game, it was actually pretty fun. Fishing, doing menial tasks, chocobo racing (and riding chocobos in general) were great. The game also has some of the most beautiful towns I’ve seen in gaming, and boy is that soundtrack perfect.
I enjoyed it a lot, but by all accounts I’d still call it a bad game.

I saw this one coming, sadly. Xbox announced they’re laying off people, and while I like Compulsion Games it’s predictable that they’re getting the boot.
They made 3 games in the last 13 years and none of them have been big hits.
2013: Contrast (mediocre reviews)
2018: We Happy Few (messy development, mediocre reviews)
2025: South of Midnight (decent reviews, reportedly underperformed)

Not much new or detailed info in case you’re thinking of browsing the article as a developer, sadly. W4 games is also technically part of Godot but this interview isn’t actually asking the developers working on the engine or the Godot Foundation itself. W4 is the company porting Godot to consoles and offering professional support.

- Comment on Gears Of War: E-Day Reportedly Has A Staggering $400 Million Budget 3 weeks ago:
400 million is INSANE. Gears of War is a fairly known franchise but it’s not nearly popular enough to justify such a huge budget, especially when it’s a console exclusive. Battlefield 6 reportedly targeted a $400 million budget, but that’s battlefield. Microsoft has to be one of the worst managed companies in the world to keep running Xbox to the ground like this.
- Comment on I still can't get over Skyrim. Are there any games that can replace it? 4 weeks ago:
The Oblivion remaster is great. If you can get past the terrible performance, it’s very immersive and feels like Skyrim with a smaller world and more fun quests. The DLC included was also great.

- Comment on Game Reveals kind of suck now .. 4 weeks ago:
Compared to what though? Game reveals have always been big CGI trailer and maybe some tease of gameplay. If anything this year was way better than the last few because they showed back-to-back trailers and not have someone talk on stage for 5 minutes after each one.
