Someone at work has been using Chat GPT to create Christmas colouring pages based on photos of people at work. So we are now surrounded by personalised Christmas pictures (which have also been helping to while away the long and boring night shifts!). Highly recommended - would be a great idea for anyone wanting a Christmas day activity for the family too.

Alright, so RiMusic does not work (offline only it seems). I’m pretty annoyed about this situation I’ve got to say. Yes, social media is bad for kids, yes some restrictions were probably necessary. Banning music (YouTube Music not though YouTube proper) access on a family managed account is just stupid, heavy handed and smacks of out dated thinking… daaaaaaah What am I supposed to do, double up and pay for Spotify… As I said, daaaaaaah!
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 2 hours ago
Yeah. I agree that social media isn’t good for kids (or anyone). But this implementation isn’t well done. :/
The kids probably like a huge variety of newer music making physical media challenging, but just in case. I noticed Kmart is selling discmans and little cd players fairly cheap. You have the benefit of knowing what they’re listening to.
Another option is iTunes and a secondhand Shuffle.

I went to swig down the last mouthful of tea, but forgot about the tagless teabag in there and smacked myself in the face with a ginseng teabag 😆
I made a Basque cheesecake yesterday at the insistence of Miniest and today we just decimated it, there’s barely ¼ left 🫣
On Tuesday the power company are shutting off the power for the whole day to do works. I’ve seen it as an opportunity to clean out the freezer, which has desperately needed it. Too many things in shitty containers that allowed foods to get freezer burnt in too short a time. Luckily I haven’t done Xmas food shopping yet.

Is this what they mean when they say tea is invigorating?

A woman in my team was sick all of last week so she missed out on Kris Kringle. My girlfriend got one of those “random scoops” of dice from some fantasy store so we’ve put together two sets.
I’ll bring them both in and try determine her favourite colour from the classic indicators; phone case, nails, drink bottle, and I’ll give her the set that closest matches

You know how to pay attention without being a pest 😻

There are not so subtle ways women express their favourite colour for those willing to look

I am apparently on the University of Tasmania ‘Roll of Excellence’ for my results in the Diploma of Sustainable Living. I did not know such a thing existed and doubt it will have any impact on anything, but I guess it’s a nice thing to know.
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
I got a participation award in yr 2. And a sticker.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 2 hours ago
Look at mr fancy over here with his sticker!
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 4 hours ago
I got a 1st place ribbon for walking in Year 7 athletics. I actually came last but was the only girl in my house, so I had no competition.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
I got Dux of Yr 7.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
Well done, I’m proud of you! I assume this features prominently in your resume?
anotherspringchicken@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
Congrats!
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 4 hours ago
That sounds like an interesting diploma to have! Is it related to your field of work?
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 hours ago
Not related to my work at all. It is primarily aimed at sustainability in your own life and community, although there are also some more scientific subjects available in things like climate change. I’ve done subjects about gardening, home and landscape design for climate, increasing biodiversity and preparing for bushfires. It’s been very interesting. It’s also free under a HECS waiver, so you use the govt. credits towards the course but don’t pay anything yourself. If you are wanting to go on to do study in that area it would be a good option and some of the subjects can be used for credits towards a bachelor degree.
Someone on the Melbourne Reddit sub mentioned doing it and I’m glad they did, I got a bit over it by the end but it has been good to do. (so thanks to the Reddit user from three years ago whose name always reminded me of 5sos but was actually something else)

Blerg ride on mower is cutting unevenly.
Time to do crash YT courses and pretend to know what I’m doing. Already been serviced twice in 3 months :'(
Hoping it’s just tyre pressure. Anything else will be a head scratcher.
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 4 hours ago
Maybe a wheel height setting on each side like my push mower?
SaneMartigan@aussie.zone 12 hours ago
I don’t want the ptv app to plan my trip, I want a pocket database where I can select a route and see the timetable. Boo.
stib@aus.social 11 hours ago
@SaneMartigan
If you to the "search" tab, you can search for a route and see a timetable for each stop

TIL how to turn up or change songs etc from my watch to my new little speaker.
Husband: Technology is becoming obsolete and you’re just catching up.
Me: 🤷♀️ 🙂

Every night my cat sleeps in the human bed and every morning receives breakfast in bed. Now she’s washing herself.
I’m coming back as a loved elderly cat
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
You are loved now. 💖

Waffles for breakfast. 5/5 yums, would waffle again.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
yum
How do you have them? ( I have mine warm and plain with coffee )
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 10 hours ago
These ones were with some sweetened vanilla yoghurt and drizzled with maple syrup. I often do caramalised apple or banana with yoghurt too.

Today at the beach I found a piece of a Spartan sample banknote. Oddest find ever, but ever so interesting. First, how did it get on the beach? Spartan is an Australian anti-counterfeit banknote company.
I knew it was a “banknote” but a denomination of 8 is just weird. Tho USSR used to have a 3 ruble note so 🤷♀️
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
That is a very odd but cool find. Surprised it survived. Wonder how old it is.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
I’d say it was new. It’s still on their website. It’s a test banknote.
Catfish@aussie.zone 9 hours ago
I’ve got a Polish bank note from a secondhand book. It’s worth something like 5c.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 8 hours ago
It’s a win 👍

Time for the lawns to be mowed at 7am every weekend. Saturdays and Sundays.

Caught up with friends but buses replacing trains really marred the experience
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 13 hours ago
I absolutely fucking despise that whole system.
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 6 hours ago
Yeah, really not feeling the benefit of those new stations right now
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 17 hours ago
Replacement buses suck.
Inventing electric powered rollerskates with a gps. (Give me lots of money and a patent pls)
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 6 hours ago
I got on one of the busses on the way hone and a girl already on there said “look at all the people” in reference to everyone getting off the train. I had to restrain myself a bit explaining how trains are such a great way to move people around and this proves it with how many buses are required for a single train

Bad sleep crew
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 13 hours ago
slept well, just too late and not long enough
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 20 hours ago
Ugh… exhaustion nap. Today really sucked anxiety wise and taking Melbcat out in the yard always flares it up afterwards. I’m just trying to spoil her
Cancer
because of her surgery in January. It’s minor, biopsy and removal of surface level cancer on her nose and lip, but I’m afraid about the general anaesthetic at her age and whether it’s spread.
Also kicking myself for not dropping my email or number to people on Fb. It might be too late now. I put it off because… I don’t know.
LowExperience2368@aussie.zone 20 hours ago
Spoil yo cat.
There was one time we gave my aunt’s dog way too many treats because he was terminal and would refuse everything else except for those treats. I hope melbcat is okay though.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 17 hours ago
Thanks. Hopefully she will be, as long as she’s in stable health they seem confident to handle it. I’m trying to be optimistic. But you do worry when it’s your pet.
She’s getting free flowing treats too as always

I was told in no uncertain terms that we were going outside today. There was banging on the door.
spoiler
I was tired and stalled for a long time, worried that she’d wait for me to fall asleep and do a runner. I managed to get a brief additional cuddle but Melbcat was adamant. Eventually my guilt got to me so after making a cuppa to go and grabbing a book we went to sit out. A little bit confused why Melbcat kind of sooks a bit sometimes when she’s outside. Either a uti is coming back, or maybe it’s her age? My umbrella sailed away with the wind into someone else’s yard, I found volunteer tomato seedlings in among the flowers, and I couldn’t find my spot in the book I stopped reading ages ago. Neighbours dog was barking at me in my own damn yard and nutcase neighbour briefly moved around. Eventually we needed to come back in for the bathroom. Noticing that people seem to be arseholes to me online more frequently lately, and getting some stronger ‘drift’ energy off the last few online friends. Even maybe a bit of a funny vibe. And it’s like… ok. Have fun.
I don’t feel like doing art today but I might do something anyway this evening. It is a human activity and I have to do something. It just sucks that something that used to be inspiring is now mechanical.
I hope I can wrangle my brain back into books because both irl here and online have really enshittified.
