Apparently you weren’t there when the original PlayStation came out. If you’re into nostalgia like that, you’re studying the wrong thing…
People who call the PS1 'PSX' make me want to kill kittens

Have you ever heard how super Saiyan is said in Japanese, the base language of the series?

Or almost every other language besides English.

I only use “PS1” when namign a ROM folder so it sorts correctly.
The PSX was always called the PSX. It always shared a suspicious name similarity with the Microsoft MSX computer device family, which Sony manyfactured some of them.

Ah yes. Just like “GCN” for Nintendo GameCube.
Another thing that irks me is Microsofts stupid decision to name a console “Xbox” then one later down the line “Xbox One”
Oh cool, you have an Xbox One? I still have an Xbox …1…?

I’d heard the reason for the Xbox One was that some marketing genius noticed people were calling Xbox 360 “the 360”, and thought they would call that one… well, the One.
And then everyone laughed and went ex-bone instead.

“I have an Xbox.”
“Oh cool, which one?”
“The original.”

PSX was actually the codename and the abbreviation is PS. PS One was the smaller redesigned version Sony released in 2000. The PS One is very charming with its small form factor, probably my favorite console of all time. I own both to this day.

I’ve never heard someone verbally say “PSX”. Does that happen?

It was usually said when referring to the PlayStation secondarily:
- “I have a PlayStation at home, you should come over sometime!”
- “I just bought Resident Evil 2 for the PSX, it’s really scary!”

PSx

Well since Sony made a model called one, there’s a point in psx for the whole line.

No one called it psx. It was PlayStation.
Metostopholes@midwest.social 1 month ago
Nobody called it the PS1 until the PS2 came along. Sony codenamed it the PSX.
