Ygu must understand that for the democrats, being the lesser evil is the whole selling point. They need to act like the respectable option, but in essence, they rely on the republicans.

Because taking action isn’t in their self-interest. That’s it.
chillinit@lemmynsfw.com 1 week ago
It’s becoming increasing difficult to deceive the public into believing they represent anyone except the corporations that find their campaigns. Their marketing is a return to the “normal” grift instead of the overt, accelerated one.
DisguisedJoker@lemmy.world 1 week ago
Democrats can’t win elections on policy action, they need Republicans as imaginary adversaries to actually win elections. They have no interest in actually stopping them.
Boozilla@lemmy.world 1 week ago
I vote Democrat, but they’ve always been political pussies and policy wonks. The Republicans are macho meatheads. Unfortunately the latter’s optics tend to play better with our unsophisticated population, most of which couldn’t pass a basic civics test.

Small nitpick: the Democrats impeached him twice. They don't get to choose who the DOJ prosecutes.
UsernameHere@lemmy.world 1 week ago
I agree but just want to mention the DOJ did try to prosecute, it was Trump’s judge that delayed the case. The DOJ was moving forward on the case the whole time while managing all the cases for the other insurrectionists and investigating the thousands of people involved.

One side is happy and gleeful to burn it all down. And the other is beholden to not burning it all down.

You got your answer, and your response is “but but but have they considered burning it all down?”
FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 week ago
Shouldn’t the side that’s beholden to not burning it all down realize that their inaction leads to everything being burned down anyway in the end
They know.
They don’t care. They’re getting rich off of the current situation in Washington too. Hell, they can loan their campaigns their own money and pay themselves back with your campaign contributions at 20% interest. It’s really, really easy to get obscenely wealthy being a legislator.

This is the worst play I’ve ever seen then.
Dkarma@lemmy.world 1 week ago
I mean objectively it’s not they still set policy and the policy still matters but the dems really don’t care if Republicans win their portfolios will be fine no matter what
FlashMobOfOne@lemmy.world 1 week ago
The Democrats pretend to care about norms and rules because that’s what they’re paid to do. Republicans reject and subvert rules because that’s what they’re paid to do. Corporate interests control both parties and this performative dance makes it easier to keep the poor and middle class away from any semblance of power.

Because democrats are only interested in upholding the status quo. With the republicans only pushing the status quo to the right, you can see where this ends up.

The Obama administration got the ACA passed, I don’t know that I’d call that ‘not getting shit done.’
spankmonkey@lemmy.world 1 week ago
The worst part is that the Republicans already weaponized impeachment against Clinton in the 90s so it wouldn’t be setting any precedent, other than actuall impeaching for real crimes.
Dems also love to throw their hands up if a win isn’t guaranteed, while Republicans throw shit on the wall and make a big deal about it to motivate their voters so they eventually win. Dems would do a lot better if they tried and failed and made a big deal about Republican obstruction for more than a single soundbite. They constantly move on to the next thing they think might work and waste time trying for bipartisanship when that ship sailed decades ago.
Dems keep acting like we are in a finctioning democracy because they are stupid.
Blue_Morpho@lemmy.world 1 week ago
and made a big deal about Republican obstruction for more than a single soundbite
A huge factor is that they can’t because all mainstream media is controlled by Republicans.
You can’t get a message out when it won’t be aired.

It’s pretty depressing that by modern standards the Lewinsky affair, and even Watergate, would be considered a normal Tuesday.

The major weakness of progressives is our tendency to be perfectionists. We’ll doubt ourselves and our proposals because they aren’t airtight, they always leave someone or something out, which always outrages a subgroup to the point of refusing to support the whole idea. This is what sank Kamala Harris - either she was complicit in Gaza genocide, or she was presumed guilty of sending innocent people to prison as a prosecutor, or she didn’t show enough support for trans people, or whatever. Too many people found a reason to turn their backs on her and shirk responsibility for the outcome.
Conservatives are MUCH more willing to allow even major imperfections in their ideas and candidates because they value the overall group goal more.
Michael Moore’s description was spot on…
Liberals:
What should we do for dinner?
Well, we could go out.
Do you want to go out?
I guess, if you do.
Okay, where should we go?
I don’t know, where do you want to go?Conservatives: Get in the car, we’re goin’ to the Sizzler!

Trump already pardoned his son-in-law’s father. There’s not even a precedence here to be set. Now I suppose there could be the worry of normalizing an already bad precedent. But Republicans have always sought to overturn or counter precedence And never cared about normalization beforehand period They have the media to normalize it for them after the fact Period
onceuponadecember@sh.itjust.works 1 week ago
[deleted]Eldritch@lemmy.world 1 week ago
Well I’m not here to defend liberals. They’re generally useless. Not an actual solution to any existing problems. But in this case there was simple well documented precedence.
When it comes to stopping fascism. We the voting population share a significant part of the blame ourselves. Democrats ran an abjectly horrible campaign, its true. But when they’re torn between two opposing pillars of power. Disaster was always on the menu. We “can” vote them in to power. Buy we aren’t reliable about it, and can’t provide funding for messaging and outreach the way wealthy oligarchs can. We used to be able to do it. But that was before Reagan broke the unions.

Read the comments and see how many supercilious shitbirds claim to be democrats: “if they don’t take the high road, I will stay home and cry with the lawful good otherkin because two wrongs!” Dems don’t want to lose them or the mythical center leaning conservative that would just vote D if they were a LITTLE further right.
Cut bait, be the dick, fuck the assholes, fuck the pussies. Time to get busy living or get busy dying, instead of getting busy sucking each other’s super noble wing wangs while fascism takes over.

> Clearest example is choosing not to prosecute Trump to the full extent because it might’ve “set a dangerous precedent”.
This is a strawman. Trump hasn’t been prosecuted because he has used his cult to escape justice time and time again. Scapegoating democrats for Trumps actions is a crazy level of gaslighting.
Trump has indefinitely delayed his Jan. 6 criminal trial. Hundreds of his supporters haven’t been so lucky.
Trump documents trial start delayed indefinitely, judge orders
Judge in Trump’s hush money trial delays sentencing following Supreme Court immunity ruling

No word on the attorney general who was hand-picked by democrats to sit with his thumbs up his ass for four years?
UsernameHere@lemmy.world 1 week ago
He literally built a case and tried to prosecute. Trump and Trumps judge delayed the case. At no point was the trial delayed while they were ready to prosecute. There were thousands of people involved in the January 6th insurrection all of which had to be investigated because going after the most powerful person in the country is not something you do half cocked.
