- Comment on What comes after postmodernism? 1 week ago:
Anarchism/Buddhism
Post-modernism was very iconoclastic. It loved the Matrix as it shouted how reality is dead. In the wake of postmodernism, those who were swayed by it are left looking for meaning in an absurd reality. The best places to find direction in the aftermath of an existential crisis are anarchism and Buddhism, IMO. Both can be engaged with completely solo (negating potential abuse from power structures), both teach and encourage thinking for yourself, both encourage empathy, both are science-supported… the list goes on.
Anarchism is a political system for a world without rulers. Buddhism is a religious system for a world without suffering. These two are deeply compatible.

Hacking simulator. Gives you a fake Unix-style computer with a terminal and window environment, you try to hack other computers and access a specific file etc

- Comment on Is it just me or is Lemmy less active than reddit? 5 weeks ago:
Yeah this is much closer to reddit in the mid 2000s. I’ll happily take the trade, even if it means I dont get replies im looking for (although I almost always do, lots of lemmings browse /all/new and stumble onto stuff)

Just block the communities you dont like. I dont want porn, non-English comms, etc. Two clicks and problem solved.
Also, why are you scared of autistic Linux furries?
- Comment on Is it just me or is Lemmy less active than reddit? 5 weeks ago:
Yes, reddit is one of the most popular sites on the internet and lemmy (the whole fediverse really) is much, much smaller. I browse /all/new, id never do that on reddit.
It’s better this way tbh

- Comment on True or false: "Reading and studying socialist theory is the cure to AI psychosis." 1 month ago:
Well, if we’re estranged from the products of our own labor, as Marx argues, then we are estranged from the products of everyone else’s. Including intellectual labor. It has become increasingly difficult for the majority of the population to maintain good literacy rates, for instance. When youre alienated from everything you see and consume, it’s not easy to feel attached to the systems which got you here, leading to radicalism, for good or ill.
Why would I want AI to regurgitate the ideas that already exist? I can just read them. I want power over my life, my work, my government. Are any of these Silicon Valley tools going to give that to me? Unlikely.

I think so, yeah. But I think a lot of things are.
- Comment on True or false: "Reading and studying socialist theory is the cure to AI psychosis." 1 month ago:
Understanding Marx’s ideas about alienation certainly influences my attitudes about AI but if youve got actual psychosis no ideology is a direct cure, you just need therapy

If youre super green (no experience at all) they wont expect much. You wont need much for the first year other than being able to show up, listen to directions, and not hurt yourself or others.
A framing crew will expect you to have basic hand tools more than a general construction company would. One is teaching you a trade and the other just wants a laborer.
Being a good helper gets you started toward something better. A lead, a contractor, whatever. I work for myself now, and that is very achievable for anyone.
