I’m not sure what you heard but this should clear it up any misunderstandings.

There’s just you and me here, 1 person isn’t a pile on.
Sorry you’re having a bad time, I hope you feel better soon.
- Comment on Lemmy or Piefed? 2 weeks ago:
Fair enough.
How websites are labelled is up to the instance admin. It used to be that all labels were warnings but in the latest version of PieFed it became possible to use neutral or positive icons as well:
It still says ‘warning type’ and ‘warning on posts’ in the UI which is an oversight I’ve just noticed!
This change was a result of criticism I read. Often when people write that stuff they think they have discovered some nefarious thing that exists that way because I want it to. The fact is it was all thrown together very quickly so it’s not always well thought-out but when people don’t like things I listen and make changes. Nothing is set in stone.
- Comment on Lemmy or Piefed? 2 weeks ago:
PieFed has some sensible defaults but all blocks can be changed by the server admin. They’re not hard-coded.
- Comment on Lemmy or Piefed? 2 weeks ago:
PieFed has no hardcoded instance or user blocks. You were lied to by bad people.
- Comment on Lemmy or Piefed? 2 weeks ago:
Of the 12,730 accounts that were active in the last week, there are 60 with the so-called “low quality” indicator, or 0.4%.
And this is in an environment where people cast 32 times more upvotes than downvotes so to earn that badge you need to be super super completely absolutely unpopular.
You’re part of a pretty special group.
Maybe try being less of an asshole? See how that goes for you.
- Comment on Lemmy or Piefed? 2 weeks ago:
Lemmy’s lack of features is why Lemmys community is how it is and that suits the Lemmy devs and their goals perfectly.

ideologically posed to keep the thing open, for the people, by the people
What. Check out the modlog, they ban more people than anyone.
- Comment on Lemmy or Piefed? 2 weeks ago:
It’s up to the mods and admins what they do with PieFed’s functions. Anything can be misused, even simple stuff. Like for example lemmy.ml has a description “a community for Foss and privacy enthusiasts” set by the admins and then ridicules and bans anyone who pushes back against the .ml political line on China.
The software feature of having a instance description is innocuous but it’s being used for deception.

Cool.
Btw if the default UI of piefed isn’t doing it for you, try https://b.piefed.social or https://p.piefed.social. Use the same login.

Interesting, thanks

Abelism or not it took seconds to change so I don’t mind.
Attitude has turned out to be a lot less useful than I hoped…

I removed the word ‘stupid’ from the code 3 months ago, the function is now called ‘reply_is_low_effort’.
The haters don’t bother keeping their propaganda up to date.
- Comment on Lemmy or Piefed? 2 weeks ago:
whether it affects them immediately, or is just something they may be concerned about in the future.
There is a 99% chance it won’t effect them because 99% of people don’t vote more than the quota. I was very careful about that.
- Comment on Lemmy or Piefed? 2 weeks ago:
The vote quota can be set to whatever the instance admin desires.
afaik only piefed.zip and multiverse.soulism.net have chosen to increase it, though.
- Comment on How do I make the most out of a mediocre laptop? 3 weeks ago:
Technically, 4 GB is supposed to be enough. https://support.image-line.com/action/knowledgebase?ans=82
But: https://www.reddit.com/r/FL_Studio/comments/14kdv0d/is_8gb_ram_enough_to_run_fl_studios/
Your CPU has only 2 cores. It’s probably the CPU holding you back more than the RAM. If you open up system monitor while working on a large project you’ll be able to see which maxes out first.
- Comment on Is there a fediverse service that access most fediverse networks? 3 weeks ago:
Yeah, both. Like in Mastodon where there is a home timeline showing stuff from people you follow AND a feed containing everything your instance has received.
- Comment on Is there a fediverse service that access most fediverse networks? 3 weeks ago:
Yes there is one of those, e.g. https://piefed.social/c/microblogs similar to Mbin’s “random” magazine.
- Comment on Is there a fediverse service that access most fediverse networks? 3 weeks ago:
Recently I added the functionality to follow other people to PieFed (not just join communities, as before). This brings Mastodon content into the main feed mixed in with content from Lemmy.
It’s still a work in progress but I’m aiming to create what you’re asking for here.

Try https://www.palemoon.org/, it’s a fork of Firefox from a few years ago before it got big.
- Comment on What comes after postmodernism? 2 months ago:
After postmodernism there has to be an attempt to take the best from postmodernism, modernism, traditionalism and use them in a situation-appropriate way, fluidly and naturally. Because none of those previous stages had the full picture and each has something to offer.
Ken Wilber called this stage “Integral”

the judge ruled that there appeared to be a ‘terrorist connection’ as the activists were attempting to influence the Israeli government by restricting its access to weapons.
This is suuuch a stretch.

I’ve noticed a lot of those big-in-microblogging folks have figured out what gives viral among their audience and just keep repeating it over and over in different forms.
Why? Hooked on the validation? It doesn’t seem healthy.

You could install Nextcloud on the VPS, configure Nextcloud to store things in S3, and use Nextcloud’s apps on the clients. And have Nextcloud provide webdav services and use your client OSs native webdav tooling.

The PieFed web UI has a daily limit you can set, btw. Doesn’t work with apps but you can uninstall all the apps and use PieFed as a pwa which is very app-y.

I guess if it were effective then Google wouldn’t provide it.
There is an app called App Block which is a bit more hard to get around.
Perhaps the key is finding things to do that are better. Volunteer work, study, get a dog, etc

In the settings, isn’t there a “digital wellbeing and parental controls” area? I’m pretty sure that’s a stock Android thing.
