Around 70% of lottery winners lose it all, with about 1/3 declaring bankruptcy, often within three to five years of winning.

Yeah and if he had been getting more lefty they would have said that, not the intentionally vague "more political".

That does help very much, thank you!
I've committed a fix.

Civ 3 was the first one I played so it sticks in my mind the most, that's all. Any of the Civs would be fine.
I do feel like Civ 3 was a big step up in visual effects, though.

To get the obvious out of the way: Pacman, Doom 2, Starcraft, Simcity 2000, Civ 3. All genre-defining milestones.
Total Annihilation. They're still making sequels today (Supreme Commander, Beyond all Reason).

Some admins really love watching who votes for what and banning people based on that.
You can disagree with that if you like but if it means they get pissed enough to defederate your whole instance, you lose.
If your instance is just you and a handful of others, no one will notice or care. But once you have 1000 users the amount of anonymous votes will be noticed and there will be consequences. Maybe not defederation but everyone banned for upvoting bigoted content will migrate to your instance and you'll be hosting the biggest shitbirds around.
I don't see a solution to this. As long as lemmy and mbin let admins snoop on people's votes that will be the dynamic and PieFed puts itself at a disadvantage by doing anything different.

The -10 can be changed in your settings. Set it to -1000 to show everything :)

That's how it used to work but I got rid of it because there were too many unintended side-effects. Now a private vote is just one that is not federated.
- Comment on What is piefed? 2 months ago:
Private votes are just normal votes except without the federation. So their effect is only felt on the local instance.

I wrote that code. It can be turned off or on by the instance admin. When an instance is created It's off by default.
Originally, when I wrote the feature comparison page, it could not be turned off.
- Comment on What is piefed? 2 months ago:
It's on the 3 dot menu on every post.
Makes sense to have it on the community too, tho. I'll find a place for it.

I really need help with anubis. I can get it to block but not in such a way that also allows API access and federation and web clients like blorpblorp.
Anyway I only need to turn anubis on for 10 minutes and all the scrapers go away for days. They really really hate it!
- Comment on What is piefed? 2 months ago:
Yes, I've been trying to make anubis work for a while. It's tricky to get right.
Here is an early experiment - https://join.piefed.social/2025/07/09/an-anubis-config-for-piefed/
- Comment on What is piefed? 2 months ago:
No, admins designate it.
Most instances do not use this feature, afaik. piefed.social does but most of the others do not.
- Comment on What is piefed? 2 months ago:
This is a temporary measure to reduce load on the server from AI scrapers.
- Comment on What is piefed? 2 months ago:
Yeah just until the latest scraper wave goes away.
