The problem is that kids obviously don’t care about this, and parents will dump the iPad or phone on their kids so they don’t have to deal with them, thus keeping his channel alive.

Funny thing: On modern reddit you would be downvoted to oblivion because the majority of the current userbase is exactly children raised with an iPad in their hand.

Fuck I hope its true, he’s been setting off alarm bells with me since day one and I couldn’t put my finger on why. Never mind the whole “do a song and dance and I’ll buy you new eyes” thing.
paf0@lemmy.world 3 months ago
His regular monetization of giving desperate people money has always rubbed me the wrong way. Of course they’re going to take it and agree to be on YouTube, they really need it
FeatherConstrictor@sh.itjust.works 3 months ago
Holy shit tell me about it, but I kinda thought maybe I was just being para los about it because of all the money that he has put towards philanthropic things.

My kid has come across his videos several times, the algorithm absolutely pushes his stuff to kids. I haven’t known about him for very long, but he does create some interesting videos. Never watched any that were giveaways or stuff but I have seen some of the contest and destination ones. They were obviously edited videos, but it’s a shame to also hear the games and people used are all setup as well. Guess we’re about to add another horrible YT personality to the canceled list?
TempermentalAnomaly@lemmy.world 3 months ago
Same. My kid isn’t into it, thankfully, but he was the topic of the week a fews ago.

This came out before the Kris news, my guess is to add to his “look how perfect I am” persona since it was tarnished by this former employee.
Dude is almost certainly a kiddy diddler too

YouTubers do things that are scripted, and kids like to watch them? What a nothingburger
Fades@lemmy.world 3 months ago
If you actually watch the entire thing, it’s clear that yeah it’s not something to cancel over but it’s also worth saying. Mr. Beast’s brand is all about two things: it’s all real and viewers (just by subscribing) can win a lot of cash or items worth a lot of cash. The next thing to understand is Mr. Beast’s main target demographic is children, and that never plays well when it comes to these kinds of things.
Mr. Beast would market his candy bar as more healthy and also if kids buy them they can gamble for a ticket to get a chance to be in a video and win yadda yadda yadda. He says part of his motivation is to defeat obesity, yet his chocolate candy bar had twice the amount of sugar then the competitor he mentions.
The more you watch the clearer the picture becomes, and no it’s not shocking; Mr. Beast is running a company to make money. Cool, no worries. It’s not so cool however when it is based off of manipulating kids. SO MUCH OF HIS VIDEOS are edited, faked, scripted. SO MANY OF THE WINNERS are friends and family of the stream even though it is advertised as random viewers. The editing is done in part to preserve this charade. Later in the video he talks about Mr. Beast wanting to participate in known scams and having to be talked out of them, it’s pretty gross keeping in mind the target demo.
It is essentially reality TV for kids, but this doesn’t end at the TV show. It stretches into these kid’s candy, the fast food (mr beast burger), the lotteries and gambling, it’s a bad look. Mr. Beast is the wrong guy with the right amount of money and it shows. It’s weird to see so many people jumping to defend this extremely wealthy person who takes advantage of his viewer base of children.

I honestly can’t watch an hour long video right now. Does anyone have a TLDW? I skimmed through the first 10 mins and it’s all about his videos being scripted, edited, and using paid actors. That’s not really surprising. What I’m curious about is if he really gives away all that money and stuff (i.e. cars, houses) to people. The video probably goes into that later on but I haven’t gotten to it.
Aphelion@lemm.ee 3 months ago
The TL:DW is Mr. Beast is a master of using gambling psychology to capture kids’ attention, to then sell them horribly unhealthy foods. His contests and giveaways are largely fake and/or are rigged to favor other creators, friends and family. He constantly fails to deliver promised prizes, and he runs live streams that are essentially child gambling masquerading as sweepstakes. He violates sweepstakes laws all the time but seems to get away with it by taking down old streams, and DMCAs any clips that get uploaded by others. He has also promoted a scheme to get his fans to act as child labor and stock/organize his products at Walmart.

Damn how is this just now coming out?
Like I figured most of it had to be bullshit when I found the “Mr. Beast Burger” ghost kitchens on Uber eats.

The video author posted this comment under the video which goes over his main claims:
“Claims I provide evidence for in this video:
Many MrBeast videos are fake, contests are unfairly rigged, and contestants are often undisclosed friends and family of MrBeast employees, or employees themselves.
MrBeast has run multiple illegal lotteries targeting children. (I estimate they profited over $10,000,000 from these lotteries)
MrBeast knowingly sold merch with fake autographs while claiming on his website that “The autographed piece is genuine”. (fraud imo)
Also MrBeast knew about Kris being a pdf”
whyNotSquirrel@sh.itjust.works 3 months ago
how do you convert “pedophile” into PDF?
otp@sh.itjust.works 3 months ago
The PIECE is genuine. The autograph isn’t! Lmao

What is this about? I tried looking it up but all I’m getting is weird right wing shit.
Pandantic@midwest.social 3 months ago
Add onto this that he is using lotteries to get people to buy his chocolate (even though its consistently rated as not as good as others) and he is lying about the healthiness of said chocolate.

Why would I expect more from a legal tv channel, say, owned by Murdoch or “left leaning” like CNN?
HeyJoe@lemmy.world 3 months ago
I feel the same. For me, anything over 10 minutes and I speed it up to 1.5 speed. I barely notice and saved roughly 20 min off of it. This is also continued so it seems like there will be like 3 or more videos covering various subjects.
Mediocre_Bard@lemmy.world 3 months ago
You can do x2 speed. I promise you. I believe in you.
