Flu shot was a total non event this year. 0 side effects and hardly even hurt.
underwatermagpies@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I had no side effects from either. I didn’t have them together though. Definitely worth it either way, everyone seems to be sick lately.
Aradina@lemmy.ml 5 months ago
Stab complete. Nurse was nice. Sitting around for 15 minutes and looking forward to getting back under my blanket.
Good chance I’ll get side effects because I’d put off the booster for too long. I’m not usually afraid of needles unless it’s an injection. Then they fuck with me. Blood tests? Ez pz go ahead here’s my veins they’re very visible (I get compliments all the time).
Injections? What if something goes wrong? What if my arm doesn’t stop bleeding? What if I get side effects? I’ll do it next week! doesn’t do it next week
Unlike my other big irrational fear, I can just shut this one off by reminding myself that that’s stupid and I’m being an idiot. Then I just avoid looking at it and don’t feel a thing.
The fear has returned a bit now that I’m sitting for 11 of 15 minutes and every slight feeling could be a lethal side effect woah aaaa!
Damn, me, if only you were in basically one of the best places to experience a side effect right now and have nothing to worry about even if you are right.
Okay that’s my ramble. The Morning Show is on and I needed to focus on less unpleasant things like serious side effects.
Go get yer shots. Don’t be a bad like I was.

Good night everyone. 😘

TV review. Mother’s Instinct. How boring, how unoriginal, another spree killer movie. But wait, this one is edgy, it has 1960s repressed housewives with perfect make up. 🙄
2 hobbits because the production is pretty and the leads are good and maybe you like these stories
The Acolyte. This is NOT the Mandalorian. No fucks given for any of the characters, acting is passable. This show has had a charisma bypass.
maybe 1/2 hobbit cos it’s made in that incredible surround studio

Does anyone here use this kind of heater?
Just wondering if it’s safe? Can’t find much info online. Was worried about CO2 poisoning.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Vic Gov spent a lot of money recently replacing these in all public properties after the death of a tenant due to CO poisoning. It was a particular brand and model (Vulcan I think) in that case.
I would avoid if it’s a gas one and ask for a replacement.
Baku@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Can confirm. They sent a dude out to get rid of our gas heater last winter. I was rather annoyed about it honestly because he did it in the middle of winter, didn’t actually remove the heater (just cut the cable), and it took a month for them to install a split system. Wasn’t illegal because we have central heating, but it only has vents in the bedrooms and not the living room or other areas.
When they did remove it we actually discovered they installed it in what used to be a fireplace though. Unfortunately this meant their idea of fixing it was putting a horrible looking wooden board over it
We ended up ripping the board off and decorating it though, so it’s not all bad

Thanks for the heads up!
Thornburywitch@aussie.zone 5 months ago
My mum used to have one - gave us all the heebee jeebies when the flame went out but the gas still kept on a-coming. OK when new but there’s better options out there now. Replace if possible.
calhoon2005@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Not for years… I’d get one of those carbon monoxide stickers and put it in the room.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Are you renting? Ask the landlord last time it got serviced. if it hasnt been in the last 12-24 months ask to get it done.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 months ago
It was done 2 years ago.
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Yes. Get one of these.
Gibsonisafluffybutt@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Awesome. Will do. I have a split system but it barely heats the house.
StudChud@aussie.zone 5 months ago
We had these in our homes growing up (lifetime renter, almost every house had one). Like Mean said, they were (should have) removed.
One time, ours just wasn’t working. Dad had a poke around and got our landlord to send a guy out. He pulled it a bit apart, and it turns out a huntsman was chilling out in there, staying warm during winter, and blocking the pilot light so the heater didn’t seem to be working.
Look at tenants Vic website, and see what you can do to get your landlord to remove it/service it. They’re really not great from a safety or energy efficiency point of view.

Shrieks indicate Boyo has found a spider in the yard. I shall need my cape and hammer.

After my partner went to work, I went for a walk and got a coffee from Mokum. It’s a Dutch place, breakfast, lunch, and dinner. I always giggle at the name and say “mo’ cum” heheh.
Anyway, they give you a small ginger biscuit with your coffee, and taking a bite then taking a sip is just the most delectable experience. Such a lovely place!
If you’re ever on Sydney Rd, drop into Mokum. Just a great cafe!
tombruzzo@aussie.zone 5 months ago
I love those places that give you a biscuit with your coffee. They always get a boost in my coffee selection mental algorithm
StudChud@aussie.zone 5 months ago
It’s the only one I’ve found around here (Brunswick) that does it, surprisingly. And it means they have been elevated to the prestigious position of First Choice Cafe in my mind lol
I’ve had lunch there too, and can vouch their food is exceptional.
calhoon2005@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Do they have Pannenkoeken?
StudChud@aussie.zone 5 months ago
They do have pannenkoekje, one savoury and one sweet.

A mate of mine saw Albo at an RSL in Davenport last night. Anyone know why Tue prime minister is in Tasmania at the moment?
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Probs the only place in aus where he can have a low key dinner. I’m kidding, he will be there to announce more money for a stadium that no one wants.
StudChud@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Does Tassie have a football team? What’s the point of the stadium if it’s not even anyone’s home arena lol. I’m being partially facetious, I can see how building the stadium would invite more events to be held down there. But also, it’s money that could be used for any number of other things that would benefit society more tangibly.

The night air is so beautiful tonight, cold but smells so sweet.

Step 1 of sorting out my camping supplies to sell did not go well. Pulled out the self-inflating mattress thinking it just needed a wipe down to remove dust and discovered it has a puncture. It’s a big 4WD matress so wrestling it back down into a more compact roll again and hog-tying it to keep it to a resonable size pending disposal was quite a workout.
The rest of the stuff is in a shed outside and it is very hard to find motivation to deal with it when it is so cold out there. If anyone is in the market for a big canvas tent and assorted heavy weight camping supplies let me know - I would happily give them away rather than having to sort out for a Marketplace listing! Same probably goes for outdoor cupboards and the bunch of old tools (which for some reason includes a rediculous amount of hand saws). I have lost all enthusiasm…
I’m going to try to push myself to do a couple of hours a day, I really need to get this stuff sorted so I can move. At least for the bit in the shed I can turn a heater on to stand in front of I suppose. Hopefully if I list as a couple of bundles for a low price I’ll be able to get rid of them quickly. Why did I ever think having extra space to “put things” was a good idea?
Duenan@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Rang up my mechanic place and they said they’d do the parking light on the opposite side for 20 so that’s 50 all up excluding any extra time due to difficulties.
At this stage I’m hoping to sort it out in a week’s time, hope I’m able to hold out till then.
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 5 months ago
That sounds pretty reasonable. I paid just over $42 to buy 2 headlight globes at Supercheap (and that was only special) recently.
Duenan@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Ah ok, are you replacing them yourself or getting someone else to do them?

I’m enjoying hearing people complain about the cold around the office. It’s presently 18.5° and sunny in Perth. Yes, it was a bit chilly this morning, but nothing like what Melbourne goes through.
I guess it always boils down to what people are accustomed to.
TinyBreak@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Our Brisbane office gang always complain its too hot in the building, whilst the Melbourne crew roll around with puffer jackets still on in the office. Would love to know WTF building and facilities actually DO.
Nath@aussie.zone 5 months ago
Oh, inside our building is fairly steady. Temprature is set to 23°. I purchased a little digital thermometer that I have at my desk. It was only 21° on the thing first thing this morning before the building filled. But, it’s back to 22.9° right now.
This will boil down to money. It is loads less work for them to arrange proper repairs and improvements to building facilities, as that really reduces the number of maintenance requests they get. So, they would want to make sure everything is repaired and serviced etc. But the building owners put limitations on that - can only spend $x on improvements and $y on temperature control etc. Then, they stand between the tenants/employees and the owners to shield the latter group from complaints.
