If Cannabinoid Hyperemesis Syndrome is real then it’s extremely rare. Just look at People like Willie Nelson or Snoop. Fact is this syndrome was only first described after Colorado legalized cannabis recreationally. So even though many many people smoked just as much before legalization it somehow only became an issue afterward? Anecdotally I know a lot of people who smoke a lot of weed. Personally neither my wife and I have been sober for more than maybe a month in the last decade and a half, and I still smoke a lot more than just half a j at the end of the day. Sometimes if I don’t smoke and I don’t eat I get kinda nauseous. The same thing will happen if I do smoke and I don’t eat. I have/get every illness, if this was a thing I would have it lol
Comment on Yup

How much is too much? My wife and I smoke a joint at night 7 days a week for the past year. Is that too much?

Yeah, legalization widens the sample group of users effectively, which will cause rarer symptoms to appear among people who have sensitivities to things they wouldn’t otherwise have known
architect@thelemmy.club 3 days ago
I smoked 4 huge cones to the dome today in between vapes. And that’s just joints. I know a lot of people that smoke weed. Never seen this.
I do think it’s propaganda. I’ve seen doctors write people immediately off and blame the weed if they tell the truth. Like people with the fucking flu not taken seriously and told it was smoking weed. Some people will blame all sorts of things if they get sick.
Hazmatastic@lemmy.world 3 days ago
I will say I think my mom gets it. She used to smoke for nausea and sleep, and one day it just didnt help. Found out it was making things worse rather than better, and once she stopped it was gone. Hasn’t felt the desire to touch it since.
Don’t get me wrong, this is likely being way overblown, and I’m a daily dabber myself so I dont want to come across like I support the fear-mongering, but I have seen evidence myself of at least its existence. Might be a misdiagnosis even, but nothing else changed and things improved for her. Not sure how common it is, or how severe it typically is, but to me it’s an accepted risk like skin cancer and sunlight. I’ll cross that bridge if it comes and deal with it appropriately, but I’m not hiding inside out of fear.
socsa@piefed.social 2 days ago
Yeah I literally never heard of this before like 2022, and basically every friend I’ve had for the better part of 30 years has been a daily user at some point. This includes dabbing, concentrates, edibles, etc. so it isn’t just a potency thing. These are people who were basically stoned every waking minute of every day in college and early careers. There’s definitely something fishy here.
Incidentally, everyone is doing fine professionally as well. Lawyers, engineers, doctors, entrepreneurs, and so on. So even the previous propaganda of “weed makes you lazy and dumb” is BS too.

If you’re scromitting less than 4 times a day I think you’re in the clear.
LadyMeow@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 days ago
Call your doctor if a scrommit lasts longer than four hours, though!
Ragallos@lemmy.dbzer0.com 3 days ago
Let’s see, wake up, dab, scromit, eat potato, drink coffee, brush teeth, dab, do homework, scromit, go to class, go to work, come home, dab, do more homework, scromit, brush teeth, go to bed.
Phew, just made it on a normal day!
timeghost@lemmy.world 1 day ago
3 out of 5 dentists recommend waiting at least 30 minutes before brushing your teeth after scromiting.
papalonian@lemmy.world 3 days ago
“How much is too much” really depends on the person, but I’ll venture to say that a single shared joint a day is not enough to induce scromiting in anyone remotely tolerant.
Licksrocks@lemmy.world 2 days ago
I have smoked to some level, nearly every single day, for 15 years. I haven’t scromited once.
Watermark710@piefed.social 2 days ago
It’s probably different for different people. I smoke a fat bowl every morning, and sometimes a second one at night, and I’m fine. I’ve been smoking for about 40 years. My wife was smoking a gram or two a day for roughly 18 months, and she developed CHS. She took a month long t-break, and the symptoms went away. Now, if she smokes more than once a week, they come back, so she only smokes with me on Monday nights.
JeromeVancouver@lemmy.ca 3 days ago
I smoked daily for 20 years and just 3 months ago I came down with this. Felt like food poisoning but my wife ate the same stuff as me and she never got sick.
Can confirm I scromitted, although any time I have thrown up in the past I also was quite loud.
architect@thelemmy.club 3 days ago
Or it was food poisoning.
its_kim_love@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 days ago
We’re you diagnosed or did you feel sick and blame it on the weed because you don’t have a better explanation?
Amnesigenic@lemmy.ml 3 days ago
No, you didn’t
otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 days ago
No. That’s barely enough, really. 😋
JadenSmith@sh.itjust.works 2 days ago
Depends on the person. Everyone reacts differently to any drug, and cannabis is no different in this respect.
I have friends who consume once or twice per day, any more and they’re not functional enough for the day. I have friends who consume once every few weeks, any more and it causes issues for them.I consume 2-3g of flower per day, throughout each day, alongside the occasional hashish and edible, and I’ve accomplished a fair bit from an unconditional offer to university for History BA Hons, worked for a US gov contract with the Affordable Care Act, etc. etc. (currently taking a change of direction and getting into a more creative field).
If most people smoked like I do, the last thing they would be doing is reading novels and research articles like myself.
Everyone is different. Really pay attention to how your consumption affects you, and make a sober assessment on whether it’s something that you’re comfortable fitting into your life in the manner in which you consume. The truth that many people don’t say, and this is coming from a consumer of just over two decades, is there are plenty of people for which cannabis is NOT good for, and provides more detriment than benefit.
Listen to your body and mind, is all I can suggest, but if you feel that it doesn’t cause conflicts in your daily living I wouldn’t worry about it. Enjoy the ganja, find something tasty and have a good time :)

I’m just interested to see how long Snoop Dogg lives
Pencilnoob@lemmy.world 3 days ago
almost certainly not too much
however the wise and financially savvy toker takes a tolerance break at least once a year to reset tolerance and spend less $. This one takes a reset at least twice a year for 4 weeks each. a four week break every six months means you’re spending way less to get the same effects
also the wise toker switches from combustion to edibles or dry herb vapes so they stop inhaling hydrogen cyanide, ammonia, benzene, formaldehyde, and other carcinogens with every hit. Each of those are cancerous which is no bueno. Also edibles and herb vapes are a lot more efficient so you’ll get a stronger effect for less $
wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 3 days ago
It typically doesn’t set on until you’ve been smoking like that for years.
But smoking like that is like driving a tractor-trailer down a steep hill. It’s hard to stop.
otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 days ago
No.
wonderingwanderer@sopuli.xyz 2 days ago
You’re right it must have been the simultaneous years of heavy drinking that wrecked my stomach
otter@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 day ago
Simultaneous, you say? Impressive.

IMO it’s the smoking that’s bad, not the drug.

Its extremely well documented. This is exactly why you shouldnt take medical advice online seriously. It just stems from an over saturation of cannaboid receptors. The same receptors whose antiemetic effects are useful for cancer patients or other nausea prone patients can be reversed by over saturation of the receptor. It can be reversed typically by a period of abstinence that lets the receptors reset, but some people can never really partake again.
I say this as someone who worked as a nursing assistant and used to be an anatomy/biology tutor in college. I also have smoked way more weed than any of you over the past decade. If you havent seen any evidence of this, its because you have no idea how to look.

What is the screaming part

other_cat@piefed.zip 16 hours ago
Okay then YOU set the standards of proof. Anything other than a direct experience, what would you consider credible as a source of counterargument?
sidelove@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Raises hand meekly… I do in fact get this if I’ve been consistent for a long-ass time, not necessarily the dose size, but I swear to god you could replace my pen with ipecac and it would be the same experience. That said, long breaks “reset” it for me.
And while I don’t personally know anyone with the same problem, there are thousands of stories both online and IRL for me of “friend of a friend can’t smoke weed anymore because of it”.
other_cat@piefed.zip 16 hours ago
If the consistency doesn’t take dosage into consideration does it take frequency? I’m curious about that part. I only partake 1 time a week (generally) but I do that every week so my consistency is high.
prole@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 days ago
I’m super curious now… Are you screaming while vomiting? And this is a different urge than what you feel for a “normal” vomit? Like there is a compulsion to scream while you’re doing it?
Zos_Kia@jlai.lu 3 days ago
Lol definitely not a propaganda thing, and all of us 339 pot smokers should be worried
