Have another one! Knowledge (and doing research) should be free and not only for people who can pay for it. Look up how ridiculously expensive and complicated it is to access those publications.

Urgh…. My fucking god, that made me so angry.
- Comment on Why are there so many more mtf trans vs ftm trans people?? 1 week ago:
Statistics says no! Actually pretty balanced. Maybe you just notice trans fem people more?

Pica is really something completely different. If they are eating food = not pica (and not even close).

Mhhhh, doesn’t seem worth it. But the real important question, do I also have to do this at 2 am in the morning?
- Comment on No, you don't escape this one Microsoft! 2 weeks ago:
Not really specific. Quite some counties have regulations and protections for their workers. I want to point out that the “default” option shouldn’t be displayed as the norm, even if it is common, because it is the worst possible option. It normalises a situation which shouldn’t be normal (and can be fought).
There is no way to point out the differences without making an example. In this case I was able to use my own situation as an example, in other cases where I’m not in a so lucky situation, I would have used a more general one.

Not debating that this is not the case in other parts of the world (10 of 195 sounds also a bit arbitrary though. Would love to see some kind of data about that, but I guess it’s kind of a very specific question). Could have skipped the first sentence of my original post maybe.

Of course it is. I’m salaried and I’m very much forbidden to work at night without a specific additional contract. So my salaried ass just can say “no” to any requests to look at stuff at 2 am in the morning without any repercussions. If they want me to do that, that has to be negotiated and has to be paid separately.

Of course! If I’m paid the rate I’m usually paid when I have to get up at 2 am in the morning, I gladly get rick rolled! :D

Pretty US centric world view. Depending on where OP lives it might be vastly different.
- Comment on What do you think about the dead internet theory? 2 weeks ago:
Ok, I don’t want to actually advertise for something paid, but in this case it is a free thing Kagi provides: kagi.com/smallweb/ They have basically a (curated? I think) list of human created non-corp things to look through. It is also a filter option if you pay for Kagi search, but the standalone page is free.

I’m still wondering if anyone is using them. I know quite a few people with all kind of sexual orientations as preferences and no one ever used them once. But maybe that’s just how it’s around here?

So… wouldn’t your glasses shatter either way? Your face will most likely slap the steering wheel even while wearing a safety belt (look at a few crash tests without airbags).

Haha, nevermind then.

If you work in a call centre it might be the de-escalation training they gave you. I have the same issue with my name and I know it is coming from the fact that I know that people in call centres are trained to address the caller by name very often to… calm them? Establish a good relationship? I don’t know but it makes me furious if someone is doing this to me.
- Comment on Why do I almost never see people flying drones? 2 months ago:
They are great for exploration and photography/videography which I’d count as rather useful. More “useless” things are flying it for fun and getting better at controlling it. There is stunt flying and tricks you can do, there is a whole community of enthusiasts who modify (and build) drones and contests you can compete in. “Useless” like any other hobby I guess.

Serious question: Why do you need to remind yourself where north is in your house? Is this important somehow?
Just a curious European here who thinks about cardinal directions about once a year…

It’s really the most annoying thing. Spotlight was so trustworthy and now I can’t find shit. Half of the time it can’t even find applications I know I have installed. I guess time to switch to Linux, but Asahi is not really finished yet, and I just hate how the trackpad feels on Linux installations.

Ladybugs rescued my plants this summer! I actually ordered 20 of them to get rid of aphids (and the ants which came with them). They took a week, then everything alive was eaten. They actually took up a fight with the ants. There were some casualties, but apparently the ladybugs won.
Felt a bit silly to order bugs in the mail, but collecting them took ages and one looks ridiculous hunting for ladybugs in the park.
