So… wouldn’t your glasses shatter either way? Your face will most likely slap the steering wheel even while wearing a safety belt (look at a few crash tests without airbags).

I still have both my eyeballs, thank you very much.
Glasses aren’t made of glass these days, they’re made of plastic (polycarbonate), and they just slung off my face for a moment…
