If you’re moderately tech-inclined, its not super difficult to set up a streaming music server that you can access from anywhere. The most basic solution that almost anyone can spin up is a cheap NAS (or always-on PC), and setting up a VPN between your phone and router to access your library.
From there you can add complexity by configuring a true music server like Navidrome, adding web-facing access, erc
After typing this, I realized maybe you meant completely decoupling music from your phone, not just decoupling the storage

You’ve thought this one through. No notes!
- Comment on When you accidentally buy the wrong bread 1 week ago:
Just for the record, you’ve been imagining that a single kidney bean between two paper-thin slices of bread would taste like a delicacy?
In fairness, I suppose many modern delicacies derive from things our ancestors ate out of sheer desperation.

Yes, the kilo-wat. For when a simple “wat” doesn’t accurately capture the absurdity of the situation.
For example, asking junior to put an atomic wafer in the power box, when you are standing right fucking next to it.

I hate that I didn’t immediately spot this as satire. It wasn’t until I reread it and digested “mild cases of death” that I realized it wasn’t some antivax nonsense. ☹️

This feels like grammar nitpicking.
If someone is feeling sleepy/tired which interferes with them doing whatever, and something got rid of that sleepy/tired feeling, most people would say that thing gave them more energy.

This made me realize that it would be really hard to distinguish between a satirical NDT quote and something I have earnestly and profoundly thought to myself while 2 edibles into a nature documentary. And I’m not sure how to feel about that.

Or just set a rule that you use the same ball the entire match. Balls wears out? Tough titties… improvise, adapt, and overcome.
- Comment on Four minutes of air conditioning 1 month ago:
An electric fan uses around 50 watt-hours of electricity per hour.
On one level, I do understand why the author wrote it this way, but man the way popular media complicates things by using units like “watt-hours per hour” (i.e., just plain old watts…) rankles me.
Just give the power consumption (watts or kilowatts) and then if appropriate relate that to the (kilo)watt-hour unit that we see on our power bill.
- Comment on When did it become normalized to start passing credit card processing fees to the customer? 1 month ago:
Good question. I believe the card companies used to have language in their agreements stating that vendors were not allowed to specifically charge fees for card usage. So you used to occasionally see places offering a discount for cash like you said.
But I have been seeing more and more places outright stating a card fee, so I wonder if those agreements have changed in the last several years.
Not sure where you are located, but A quick search says that there are some US states with laws banning card surcharges, but most allow them.
Unfortunately, you know those fees were baked into pricing structures long ago, so any place charging an extra fee for card usage is definitely double-dipping.

Honestly, I don’t think your edit is crazy at all. I have a hunch that all the fake, filtered, AI-processed, vtuber’d social media is going to result in a sharp backlash soon. Kind of like how over-the-top, image-focused glam and heavy metal of the 80s spawned a backlash in the rawer, more “real” feel of grunge and stripped down alt-rock in the 90s.
Maybe that desire for reality will be one of the triggers for the AI bubble bursting.

Maybe controversial, but despite the rye chips being far and away my favorite part of Gardettos, I actually prefer the mix because then the rye chips are that much tastier when you hit one.
Or maybe its the same kind of illness/cope that causes me to say things like “I actually enjoy living in the midwest, where we get to experience all 4 seasons, versus someplace that’s pleasant and warm all year”
