dmention7@midwest.social 20 hours agoI wasn’t even thinking about thunderstorms, but you’re right, I would totally miss them! My dogs hate them, but I love a good rumbly light show on a hot summer night, and the cool air that (usually) follows.
Lightning and distant clouds are the only thing I miss about living in the flat Midwest.
Mountains and blizzards are a good trade off though. We get thunderstorms too, but if you see a lightning bolt, you’re probably in danger of either dying or frying some of the electronics in your home. And your ears will be ringing.
i never quite understood how loud thunder could be until lightning struck my apartment’s parking lot. i grew up in earthquake land and thought that’s what was happening.

Every Midwesterner in the pnw laments the sky not trying to kill us here. It’s lovely and I love it here, but the storms that feel like the end of the world are beautiful and wonderful
