Also “sub-”, at least in mycological names.
The other day, I read that there’s a mushroom called “Agaricus subsubensis” and I felt like I was being trolled.

It allows you to keep your arms shoulder-width apart which makes it easier to avoid hunching.
- Comment on The green lean mean killing machine 2 weeks ago:
If wish to learn how to forage for mushrooms, join a local mycology club and go out with them. They can identify mushrooms for you and teach you how to do so yourself. They can also recommend good local field guides, I see a few folks in this thread recommending All that the rain promises and More which is a reputable guide but it’s also spectacularly out of date and only applicable to Western North America.
It’s important to know what you’re doing but mushroom identification is not nearly as difficult as some of the comments here make it out to be. There are far fewer deadly mushrooms out there than most people think and it’s fairly easy to familiarize yourself with all the deadly species in your area so you can avoid them.
- Comment on The green lean mean killing machine 2 weeks ago:
Nothing wrong with picking a mushroom to ID at home or at an ID clinic run by your local mycology club. You should individually inspect each specimen as you’re cleaning them anyway so you can throw out any which might be going bad, chock full of bugs, or misidentified.
When in doubt, throw it out.

Mushrooms were plants until the 70s, maybe they just had outdated textbooks in school.

I think that sticker just means you sent Nvidia a pre-release build so they had time to add game-specific hacks to their drivers before your launch.
- Comment on Randy Pitchford Snaps Back at Borderlands 4 Criticism: 'Code Your Own Engine' 5 months ago:
There’s a process called certification you need to pass in order to release on a console where they test your game against a list of criteria outlined in the developer agreement to validate stability, minimum performance, and conformance with platform standards. Nintendo pioneered this process (the Nintendo seal of quality) in response to unauthorized developers releasing cartridges which ran poorly and could freeze or even cause damage to consoles.
For a while, console manufacturers pretty strict about certification requirements but as time goes on they’ve been granting more and more exceptions to large publishers willing to pay fees and pinky-promise to fix the issues post-launch.

Being a dev on a competitive multiplayer game means getting wrecked every playtest by balance designers and community managers who used to be pros/streamers.

Fair point haha.
- Comment on kingdom come 7 months ago:
Fungi only got its own kingdom in 1969, before that they were a phylum in Plantae. There are tons of people still around who learned “mushrooms are plants” in school, so it’s not surprising downstream vocabulary hasn’t caught up.

I’m the opposite, I can tell some really difficult mushrooms apart due to good ol’ hyperfixation but I still know jack about plants and trees.

- Comment on Monster Hunter Wilds game reviews hit "Overwhelmingly Negative" on Steam — can Capcom turn it around? 8 months ago:
No they didn’t have dlc, that’s why they sold MHG as a full price disc despite the fact that it was the same game as Monster Hunter with extra content, the same as Iceborne for World or Sunbreak for Rise.
- Comment on Monster Hunter Wilds game reviews hit "Overwhelmingly Negative" on Steam — can Capcom turn it around? 8 months ago:
World was just as bad at launch IMO. There was nothing worth doing post-story until Kulve Taroth came out.
- Comment on Monster Hunter Wilds game reviews hit "Overwhelmingly Negative" on Steam — can Capcom turn it around? 8 months ago:
Because not every game needs an endgame but publishers demand long-tail monitization so devs tack one on anyway.

G-rank was always a full price DLC that came a year or more later unless you skipped the base games (or Capcom didn’t localize them like with 4).

Hypomyces are look more like molds growing on mushrooms than mushrooms growing on mushrooms. There are mushrooms that grow on other mushrooms like Squamantina or Claudopus parasiticus but they’re all pretty specialized to only grow on certain genera of mushrooms and I’m not aware of any that parasitic mushrooms that can grow on parasitic genera. I’m just a hobbyist though and I’ve only really studied mushrooms that grow in the Pacific Northwest so perhaps it exists somewhere.
The only potential double-parasitism I can think of is that peppery boletes (Chalciporus piperatus), which are hypothesized to be parasitic on Amanita Muscaria’s mycelium because of how frequently they’re found together, could be infected with Bolete mold (Hypomyces chysospermus/microspermus).
- Comment on Your majesty 10 months ago:
And let those filthy aspergillus or god-forbid hypomyces have a say in how we run things? I think not, long-live king Muscaria of Amanitaceae!

Or slime molds which are, in fact, an ameoba.
- Comment on Please answer. 11 months ago:
Most molds are about as closely related to mushrooms as flatworms are to humans
- Comment on The Nightshade Family 11 months ago:
They also depict a mushroom that only grows in Japan growing in China but the show is pretty anachronistic overall.

If you’re considering buying keys from shady resellers just pirate the game instead. A lot of those keys are bought using stolen CC info and end up getting charged back which leaves the devs having to pay processing fees.
Also Humble is a retailer not a reselller, they get their keys directly from the publishers or developers of the game, they don’t resell keys they bought from someone else.
