Does this mean Americans are going to revolt and build themselves a new government with new leaders who are not corrupt?
American workers are tired of waiting.

If there’s one thing we’re good at, it’s doing everything but the right thing until we have no other choice.

Ok I agree with this. However - you’re not gonna stop the guy killing people in the streets by not voting or voting for a 3rd party with no popular support.
Would be nice though
WoodScientist@lemmy.world 5 days ago
Historically, that’s exactly what you have to do to topple an autocrat. Around the world, autocrats come to power when both major parties are seen as completely corrupt and ineffectual. Usually the only way to defeat them is to completely abandon both parties. Look at Orban’s recent defeat in Hungary. He wasn’t defeated by the captured opposition, the analog of the US Democratic party. He was defeated by a united front of anti-authoritarian voters that spanned across the political spectrum.
The idea that you can just keep voting for the captured opposition has no basis in historical fact. You can’t defeat a dictator by campaigning for a potemkin opposition also run by that dictator.

Exactly. We need more shouting about Epstein, and finding and cleaning up wherever the fuck their new island is. Most MAGA will show up personally to help (give a fair jury trial to…or something) whoever is found on whatever new island the abuser cabal has settled on.
Many of us are idiots, but none of us want this crap to continue.

I keep hoping Apophis shifts just a little bit before 2029- I’d say we had a good run, but humans suck

Hear that, guys? There’s nothing we can do. Let’s pack it in and bend over!

Centrists were just handed evidence that second worst is not enough to win. They are doing their best to ignore it because they don’t want to change.
NerdyTimesOrWhatever@lemmy.today 3 days ago
No you just want everyone you disagree with to be labelled as evil and genocidal. You know not everyone is evil, right? Im sure we agree on a lot, but this trying to pin genocidal love on people is very annoying, and extremely EXTREMELY counter-productive.
Dont reverse Westboro yourself. Im sure you have a better way to express yourself. Put away the rage beatstick.

And why are the GOP dangerous right now? Because they were voted in in the first place.
You get who you vote for, and 2/3rds of the country voted for them by my logic. (1/3 abstained, which is the same as saying “I’m fine with the winning 3rd picking for me”)
Riverside@reddthat.com 4 days ago
And why did 1/3rd abstain? Could it have possibly something to do with the total lack of capability of putting forwards a slightly likeable candidate with slightly likeable policy? What was participation in voting for Mamdani?
jama211@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Ohh, keep going, if you think hard enough you might actually get there.
DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 days ago

Biden/Harris were a whole hell of a lot more likeable than Donald Trump.
-
Do you think I, and many millions of others, adored the idea of Biden or Harris? Of course not. But we still voted for them anyway because DONALD TRUMP WAS THE OTHER OPTION.
People who abstained are pathetic. Period.

Charlie, kick Lucy instead of the ball. Vote Blue no matter what, because the Government of Putin will attempt to pull another fast one.

Really? So why did American workers HAND THE GOP UNOBSTRUCTED POWER?
Fuck right off with this ‘never my fault’ logic.
DarkFuture@lemmy.world 4 days ago
So why did American workers HAND THE GOP UNOBSTRUCTED POWER?
Because they’re fools. Simple as.
The GOP has a track record of being awful for the middle/lower classes. And, to top it off, right before the election Donald Trump and Elon Musk had a streamed one on one discussion and spent time talking about how they hated worker rights. Then workers across the nation went out and voted for those born wealthy dipshits who openly admitted they didn’t like workers.
A nation of fools.

It’s amazing how many people don’t even attempt to kick. In 2008 and 2016 a dem primary vote represented 3 other people in the party, and that was higher than a lot of other elections!
Asidonhopo@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Fuck that, I’m voting Vance in if they force another DNC Zionist Corporate dem in the primaries.

it’s like playing craps.
some people bet all red.
some people bet all blue.
and the others bet that the wheel will spin off and take them to a better casino.
either way, the house always wins.

Things are steered by the people that show up
7101334@lemmy.world 4 days ago
In politics in general, sure.
In American electoral politics, tell that to the massive grassroots support of Bernie Sanders who were disenfranchised by the DNC, who argued in court (successfully) that they could “go into back rooms like they used to and smoke cigars and pick the candidate that way” if they wanted to while defending the reality that they showed a clear bias (read: rigged the primaries) against the people’s candidate in favor of the corporate candidate.
The DNC is a rotten corpse that some people insist on continuing to provide mouth-to-mouth to.
Ensign_Crab@lemmy.world 4 days ago
Republicans don’t show up to vote for democrats and never will, but that doesn’t stop the party from chasing after their votes.
