- Comment on Dear neighbor... 1 day ago:The town home next to ours was abandoned and had the smoke alarm beep every 60s or so. We tried calling the city and they were no help so we broke in and handled it ourselves. It was a weird system where the smoke detectors were hooked into the security system which was hooked into one of those soda can sized 9v (12v?) batteries in the basement. I guess that battery was dying. Disconnected that and the beeping finally stopped.
- Comment on Don't fix the problem just change the parameters 5 days ago:All my schools had them. Sometimes you’d catch them doing a resync and all the hands would spin around. I think they probably couldn’t rotate CCW so had to go around the long way if they needed to roll back a few minutes.
- Comment on Progress 6 days ago:I’ve worn a pebble smartwatch for a decade just to avoid all the annoying noises our phones make non stop. So i keep my phone on silent and I’ve got the pebble set to only get notifications for texts and calls neither of which i get a ton of on a daily basis. I like to be able to glance down and either ignore or pull out my phone and deal with. I am also a big fan of leaving my phone in the other room and dont wear the pebble a lot on weekends just to get a break.
- Comment on Insuranace is a joke 2 weeks ago:The hopefully only car I’ll ever total was about 20 years ago. I bought it for 7k and drove it for 5 years. They initially lowballed me at like 3k. I was able to show them Kelly blue book values and current used market it was closer to 6. Ended up getting a little over 5k. Of course in the 5 years since I got the car the used market was nothing like it previously was. A comparable purchase would have been 12k not 7k.
- Comment on Texas National Guard arriving in Chicago 3 weeks ago:What’s a liter cola?
- Comment on Is anyone NOT steaming their Music? 4 weeks ago:I mostly use qobuz when out and about and vinyl at home. Music streaming is the one streaming media I don’t find objectionable as a consumer. All the services have pretty much the same catalog so pick based on features. I still buy my favorite albums though so the artist actually gets money.
- Comment on Lead 5 weeks ago:He probably did. You know all the republicans hate most what they can’t accept about themselves. Grindr servers crashed in AZ leading up to his memorial.
- Comment on Too soon? 1 month ago:Ahh a “good christian man” he was anything but. Why do all of the “good christians” go against everything Jesus taught? Why do they only use his name to oppress others? A true christian would welcome and accept those that are different not try and belittle and shame them for their differences. Begone CHUD.

- Comment on If I wanted to bury a hard drive for archival purposes (e.g. Country becoming Dictatorship), how to keep the contents from being damaged and where is the safest place to bury it? 2 months ago:Floppies read just fine today with usb drives. I read and write floppies for a bunch of weird, old computers at work just fine. I expect that sata hardware will still be pretty accessible in 30 years even if it isn’t standard on future PCs.
- Comment on GOG NSFW Giveaway 2 months ago:Hunie pop is a legit good game. Its a fun puzzler and a toungue in cheek take on the genre.
- Comment on mentoring 2 months ago:I’m pushing 40 and would love a Gary in my life.
- Comment on How do you combat boredom? 3 months ago:Reading the news is a necessary chore. I often regret it and love getting away from it. Reading a book is soul soothing.
- Comment on what 3 months ago:I can’t tell if this is a shitty seller or shitty bidder. It could be a 25 dollar item the seller thinks is worth 350, or it could just be someone looking for a score. If I’m making a serious bid I take 10-20% off max.
- Comment on (Not so)Smartphone 3 months ago:The only voice function I use is setting timers and I get so frustrated Google wants me to unlock my phone to do so. I am using my voice because my hands are busy. So annoying!
- Comment on Vitamins are good but idk.... 3 months ago:Get another carrot and when they come home just start chompping down on it nonchalantly. Total power move to establish your dominance.
- Comment on Is anyone else not feeling that patriotic for July 4? 3 months ago:It’s been almost 20 years since I felt patriotic. I mostly just comfort the dog and hope the yahoos don’t accidentally burn my house down.
- Comment on Might be time to find another job 3 months ago:Milk is weird. I don’t think any other mammals drink it after childhood, or from other animals.
- Comment on Might be time to find another job 3 months ago:We still have coffee and creamer, but it’s the worst shit imaginable, just burnt beans and powdered creamer. I was pissed when I went to our HQ in another state, which is smaller than our site and they had a good brand from my city and multiple real creamers. They had a free soda fountain too which we don’t have, but I’m trying to cut that shit outta my life so that’s probably for the best.
- Comment on Might be time to find another job 3 months ago:So glad I live 5 minutes from work and can go home for lunch. Mostly it’s to see the dog but it’s also nice not worrying about this crap. I only ever use our group’s mini fridge in our cubicle for a seltzer I drink at the end of the day. Even that is a chaotic fridge filled with rotting food and too many condiments and creamers. I just put a can in to cool in the morning and take it out to drink by the end of the day.
