Aw, thanks for the photos! Glad it was a nice day, even if a little sad.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
yes, totes awesome photos 😃
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Loved the jellys when I went ages ago.
Felt a bit sad too when I saw the penguins. I know it’s a conservation thing as well as an attraction, both poor things really didn’t have much space.
PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
looks great
but as you both say, it’s also a little sad
Are we at “Silent Running” yet?
I think we are on the road to Soylent Green.

Today we attack the remaining trellis and jasmine.
Still no word from the neighbour on the fuckn fence that blew over. The builders doing the renos next door propped it up from their side (without telling me what they’ve done) so I’ve propped it up from our side (again). It’s like a battle to see which way it’ll fall over next lol. I will be victorious.
In better news. Weeping cherry almost there:
Over the years it’s slightly earlier every year.

Ooh please share a photo when it’s in full bloom. It’s so pretty!

Woo! Just found out horrendous Real Estate agent has been liquidated. Wish more juicy details were available but just their deletion is fantastic on its own 😈

Sunday, hello!
RustyRaven@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
It appears most people are not up to greet Sunday. Choosing the sleep in option perhaps?

Your nail polish gives off very witchy river vibes (/pos).

Thank you! My 5yo niece picked the colour (it’s her favourite) ☺️

I am supposed to like sand.
I do not.
So I feel your pain.
StudChud@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I HATE SAND
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
awesome, you found a ram’s horn shell , they are an ocean shell, not a bay shell
StudChud@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Thank you!! I was hoping you would know! I thought it was the coolest shell! I left it on the beach :3
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Stayed up way too late last night after being at a friend’s place until midnight and it’s made today feel like a total write off. This is why we need three day weekends!

My sleep in plan worked beautifully. My furry overlords decided 3pm was enough sleep though and jumped on me until I got up.

Idk if Witchy is back yet or somewhere over Antarctica enroute, so, quiz! 30/50PeelerSheila@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
40/50 very unusual for me 😆
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
20/50 for me
StudChud@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
35/50, there were 5 of us playing 😂
Eagle@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
30/50 for me.
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
15/50 - again not trusting my gut enough.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
they got one of the answers wrong
it’s an ( often secret ) escape door in the floor that you lift with a wrought iron ring or a rope loop handle
and it pertains to all structures, not just castles

So I went to the optometrist yesterday, and they quoted $275 just to pop out a lens and put in a new one with a slightly stronger prescription. Ridiculous. Luckily we have private health, which covers most of that amount, but yikes
princessnorah@lemmy.blahaj.zone 3 weeks ago
That’s insane, my local optometrist would pawbably do that for free. I recently got new lenses for my frames and those were installed for free as far as I recall. Though I did order the lenses through them.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago

Today we watched Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas, The Big Lebowski and currently watching Being John Malkovich. Is there anything else like these that we should watch?
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
A movie called Paris Texas.
Force_majeure123@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Have you seen Train to Busan? It’s another English language film much along the same lines as the ones you’ve listed
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Do you mean Bullet Train? Train to Busan is a Korean zombie movie, Bullet Train is an action/comedy Brad Pitt movie.
Taleya@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
How are you on Wes Anderson?
CEOofmyhouse56@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Yeah I’ve seen a few of his movies.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Blues Brothers
UHF with Al Yankovic
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Headache cleared up thankfully.
Decided to go back to basics with guitar. Sometimes you can get caught up trying to make something sound “clever” instead of expressing yourself.
Too much thinking where there shouldn’t be any, or very little.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
More Marie Kondo-ing and laundry.
I’m wondering if I should donate the normal cat food Melbcat shouldn’t be eating or keep it just in case… She’s currently on a special low phosphate food that she likes, but it could also be causing stomach upsets. 😢
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I usually give unwanted cat food to neighbours with cats
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I usually donate unwanted stuff in good condition/unopened to the vet now because they give it to clients who need it.
Maybe I’ll give them like half of it now and see if Melbcat’s stomach settles before donating the rest

Is this the Sunday Scaries? I’m having the shittiest time.

I’m pooped
melbaboutown@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
I’ve done a few loads of laundry and swept the living room. I didn’t do behind everything yet but it’s looking good. (I have a vacuum but it’s loud.)

belated second review of the movie The Brutalist
this movie stayed with me, I have been thinking about it a lot
My second thought was it wasn’t about the artist or art but about the nature of freedom and the innate nature of human behaviour
my third thought is it’s about the artist in different environments and how he sees the world, how he reacts and acts differently to other people, all artists
Every character in this movie lives in pain, suffers abuse because of who they are, they might be a writer, gay, hetero, black, young, old, Jewish, male, female, a manual labourer, a desk worker,
And the abuses the characters suffer are interpersonal, one on one.
But in America there are no cats , whoops, wrong movie. In America there is freedom. ( any political abuses people are suffering now are masked in lies and are unconstitutional ) The federal government doesn’t restrict people because of who they are. yes, there is a history but there is also a history of more and more freedoms enjoyed by more and more people. It’s an imperfect but improving system.
The artist is different because he expresses the pain in his art, not just his pain but the pain of all who suffer under a repressive government. And those repressive governments might make people suffer , even kill people but they can’t stop love.
When governments and civilisations fall and are forgotten people will still see the art and see love.
so I suppose it’s about the limits of freedom, freedom doesn’t direct all interpersonal interactions, and how some people are driven to artistic expression
( Opinion here, I think people will generally act the same regardless of laws, they will find ways to be good and to be bad within the laws )

Hello, fellow kids. I’m back. Slept 16 hours after the flight from Europe. Amazing trip. Work stuff was great, Paris was lots of fun and the Alps were so beautiful even though I had a bit of a lurgy.
But discombobulated now though. Need food, wash clothes and moooore sleeeeps. Happy to be home. We have the best food. And I missed my bed.
SpinMeAround@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
Welcome back!! Glad to hear it was amazing!! Coming home to your own bed is always an extra special feeling though!
Seagoon_@aussie.zone 3 weeks ago
so many hugs
we missed you 😘🫂
