If only the would add the same warnings for the people who scream, clap, cheer and whistle during marvel movies.

The only time I was ok with this was during the “Avengers assemble” scene in Endgame.

I agree it’s okay there. But my god some people will try to do it for literally everything. I remember when I saw Deadpool and Wolverine people were cheering and whistling as the actors names came on screen. I understand people get all excited for these movies but theater etiquette should still exist.

Went to see it on release day and this behaviour ruined it for my kids who were startled and frankly a little scared at how loud the older teens were.

The most awkward phase of most of our lives is when you reach that age that you’re too old to like kids movies in a healthy way but also too young to like kids movies in a healthy way.

Like that awkward teen time when you have to pretend to not enjoy a form of entertainment that is essentially universally enjoyed only to prove to people your age that you’re “not a baby”.

Idk if it is still like that. But I remember specifically being that age and my cousin who was like a year older mocked me for liking Elf with Will Farrell. It’s such a weird age.

Though I think this is primarily a part of toxic masculinity. Most girls I knew never had this pressure.

I just made a post about this on my own comm this morning about how the talk about the shit going on in the theatre is what is actually making me interested in going to see it, if it is at all true.

When I first saw Rocky Horror Picture Show it was at a midnight event, I didn’t know shit about it other than it was super popular for some reason. The audience participation made the film better. If that’s what going to the movies was usually like, I would want to go out to the movies more often instead of just watching everything at home.

At least for Rocky Horror, the mess is 100% expected by the staff for a one off screening every few months.

Dealing with this shit for every screening in every theater multiple times a day would have me put a lock on the doors. They don’t have the staff to deal with it constantly.

      source
      • HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

It depends on the mess, but kids movies are always messy and theaters have the staff on hand to clean those kinds of movies, or can increase staff if necessary.

    • afronaut@lemmy.cafe ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

I saw a compilation of clips from various theaters.

-kids were throwing shit all over the place

      -people were assaulting staff

-someone set one theater on fire during the screening

Who knows what else has been happening but those were the highlights.

Oh my god society is pathetic.

Let people enjoy a movie for fuck sake. Oh no people clapped because Jack Black said Minecraft boo hoo.

Grow up people if your kids are bothered by crowds and loud noises that bad maybe have a conversation with them that other people exist and have a whole life they wanna live too

Movie theaters rely on an intact social contract for them to work. These movies aren’t filmed in front of a live studio audience, the actors can’t pause to wait for audience reactions. If I spend $20 for a ticket for a single viewing and miss a line because of people talking, being on their phone, air otherwise acting a fool. I’d be upset, I’m sure plenty of people are asking for their money back because of disruptions during the showing. If a theater becomes known for disruptions then they will lose customers and go out of business.

      source
      • Doom@ttrpg.network ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

Nah completely disagree. Your enjoyment doesn’t matter more than another’s, I like theaters with energy. Obviously it matters movie to movie but if you’re going in for a horror movie and don’t expect gasps and screams or an action movie and don’t expect possibly some cheers watch the movie at home.

Part of the theater is going to the crowd. Why would you assume a child’s movie would be quiet? They never are and never will be

No that isn’t true. Which line did you miss of the kids movie because they had fun, can I help you? The kids of EVERY generation has done shit like this. Stop being so boring

It’s not just clapping, it’s people throwing popcorn and running around the isles screaming. And not kids, teens.

It’s like fucking Rocky Horror Picture Show, but most of the audience didn’t sign up for the interactive show

So exactly like Rocky Horror Picture Show

I know! Don’t watch it in theaters and watch it on Netflix in a month

    source
    • barneypiccolo@lemm.ee ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

Better yet, bootleg it, and keep their corporate profit in your own pocket.

      source
      • LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

Do you mean pirate it? I always used “bootleg” to mean the copies people sell or post online that are specifically camera recordings of the screen.

I have never once watched one of those versions for more than 5 minutes. It’s just garbage quality and audio. I’d sooner not watch a movie.

But if you mean pirate it when it has a digital release. Absolutely! Piracy is alive and well and getting better with every ad or price increase the streaming services add.

Outside of making a mess or trashing the place, I think movie theaters need to allow patrons to do more when watching a movie. The movie is going to go direct to video in a month anyway, why not let movie goers have fun?

    source
    • Scary_le_Poo@beehaw.org ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

Because someone has to clean that shit up.

      • HobbitFoot@thelemmy.club ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

If this was over a generation ago with how movies used to get released, I’d agree with you.

However, it feels like part of the fun of seeing something in a theater is that you’re watching something with others and you could watch it alone within a few months. With what I’ve read about RRR or the Taylor Swift Eras movie release, maybe theaters should let some screenings being audience participatory because there is more enjoyment with treating the movie as something to interact with instead of passively watch.

After all, you can passively watch a movie at home.

Ah yes the last reason for anyone of new generation to go to the cinema great idea boomer

    source
    • LeninOnAPrayer@lemm.ee ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

Yeah. I’m with you. Sure some little kids might be afraid of some loud teenagers. But it’s a Minecraft movie. Half the people buying tickets to that shit are doing it specifically to meme. Let the kids be kids.

Actually, i just had a good idea. Restrict the movies age below 15 unless you’ve got a kid under 15 with you. Basically the reverse of an R rating.

Gets rid of most of the cringe 15+ year old that go there to be annoying. Give them their own theater even.

      • KeenFlame@feddit.nu ⁨1⁩ ⁨month⁩ ago

Make a rocky horror thing of it, it’s no problem unless they do this everytime, and if they do then the theaters have fucking found an entire new field of revenue and it’s just idiotic to reject that
