America has been under the threat of foreign influence since Day 1 and right now, it looks like we are temporarily under attack by agents of Eastern Europe and South Africa. Literally every noteworthy poll of the last 20 years will show that the majority of Americans are against this and it’s important to remember this harm is coming from outside.

Musk is under russian control, South Africa got nothing to do with this

It’s mostly Russian as the primary contributor.

A good chunk is due to the religious right slowly infiltrating our school boards since the 70’s, undermining education. Also our school system is developed to make people just smart enough to do jobs, but not smart enough to question them. We aren’t taught critical thinking. Also being taught hyper individualism works against us taking collective action as adults.

Here in United States we always used to think Europeans were stupid.
And it’s not like it’s prejudice from people never leaving their hometown. Nope, actually TV shows and movies make Europeans look way smarter than they are.
Nope, the conclusion comes from people that met real Europeans, either in Europe or in the US.
Last time I saw a European in Baltimore he was asking for dirty water in his drinking glass. The most barbaric thing I’ve seen in a while 😂

Was he asking for a Budweiser? lol

If so I wouldn’t exactly be shocked

American here, yes. But worse, it’s part of the designed system we live in. So also forced.

Idk I just think the far reich feel unfettered now. They don’t fear anything so it may seem that everybody is shitty but they’re just louder than they were.

Last administration started war on Russia, and refused to talk with Russia and China, and so any respect for intellectualism, did not exist then either. So many here support those policies. Post truth/humanist world has existed for a long time.

Maybe, but they weren’t always the loudest like today and they weren’t connected over vast distances immediately to grow their isolated hatred of the unknown

Yeah, the people of the United States have been so stupid for so long that Europe and Canada have spent the last month scrambling to figure out how to do without all the things they rely on us for, to include computer operating systems, CPU architecture, to cloud computing and payment processing systems.

You can just post this question at any point in the past 50 years and there will be a lot of people who agree with you and pull something out of history.
Because it’s in the immediate now, it feels like the most extreme thing.
If you want to get even farther (and fall into a spiral), you can actually review the past 200 years. Early in the 1900s, we invaded the Philippines. In the 1800s, we were massacring natives/indigenous people.
These are extremely broad strokes I’m emphasizing.
And again, this is a rabbit hole of darkness and I don’t recommend subscribing to the “everything is shit” philosophy. But take a step back into history and do recognize that there has always been a significant (in your words) level of stupid, a low point of intellectualism and accountability.

People in general are fairly fucking dumb. It’s frustrating…
melpomenesclevage@lemmy.dbzer0.com 1 week ago
only because they’re made dumb, they’re made small, they’re made blind and deaf and numb because seeing and hearing and feeling hurts too much and this way is just easier. not thinking is easier. not caring is easier. it’s not like thinking helps. it’s not like caring helps. not when you’re totally atomized.
but there are things to do. things you don’t even have to be intelligent or compassionate to manage.

You’re getting confused by algorithms that promote stupid things to make money. It is not a valid representation of the population.
Also the US just got coup’d. The fascists in charge dont have popular support.
