Not sure if 20k bots is a lot. There's no easier way to get people to use your platform than showering them in fake followers.

I don’t get the hate comments here other than “hurr durr im on a morally superior social media and your daughter isn’t”. Yes, Rednote is a Chinese app with Chinese ideals, proprietary, non-free, foreign telemetry etc etc. but at the end of the day sounds like your daughter’s having fun on an app that’s not too indifferent from TikTok.

Just take a second to glance at what she posts and what the interactions are. My brother’s friend’s 14 year old daughter who has “absolutely has no social media accounts” actually had a tiktok account with 12k followers who were increasingly pressuring her into making more sexualized content. That girl is now grounded until she qualifies for retirement.

I am sincerely glad your daughter is having fun, but I have several female friend who are trapped in the toxic spiral of rednote and cannot quit.
From what I read on the Chinese internet, they have a tendency to serve wholesome content to people at first, then switch to toxic content to encourage consumption. As many westerners don’t know, rednote is a shopping-guide app, and they make money from it.
I hope they don’t do it to non-Chinese people and I really hope people like your daughter can continue to have fun wherever they are.

because theyre female ? (😂

I am not sure, I don’t have a lot of male Chinese friend, so I don’t have any data in that department.
However, to be completely frank, I sometimes feel that now Chinese female are subject to much higher social expectation, which are likely to be reflect on social media, thus amplifying their anxiety.
But I certainly have plenty of female friends that doesn’t use rednote, and they are doing fine. (except one on twiter, and she also doesn’t seem to do that well 🤣

I don’t get most of this social media bullshit. I guess because I just want to live a normal and private life.

I would argue that there’s a different definition of shitpost which is intentionally low quality post but this thread 100% fits that definition too
wizardbeard@lemmy.dbzer0.com 2 days ago
You must have a very different experience with social media if you are seriously able to say that with a straight face.
Most moderators use those criteria exactly the same way I have, and many other sites and communities restrict posting privileges on new accounts as an effective measure to curtail spam and astroturfing. The only reason that isn’t being used on Lemmy is a lack of moderator tools to do it.
Additionally, shitpost is not some catch all category. Traditionally shitposts are intentionally false, misleading, or low quality posts done for the sake of humor or to try and elicit an emotional response from others (see: trolling). But fair enough, this particular comm has been becoming a catch all lately.
Anyway. You want to look more natural? Go participate in other comms. Make comments on a wide variety of topics, not just about the latest social media site that’s clamoring to profit off the current situation.
Until then your response amounts to little more than an indignant “nuh uh!” with nothing behind it.

I am on TikTok and moved to little red book too as I speak Chinese. It’s really fun honestly. It’s like a better insta and TikTok combined.
