Aldi chocolate is typically 10X better than the cadbury stuff, but these days a cadbury block on sale for 3 bucks is better value. Know its not what you mean, but still technically accurate to your question: I like Kia better than Hyundai. Hyundai are a bit uninspired. I also prefer Mitsubishi to Nissan.

Whatâs your knockoff brand that is better than (or just as good) as the name brand?
Whatâs your name brand for which there is no substitute?

Another vote for the Aldi chocolate range which is incredible and leagues ahead of Cadbury and just about anything you can get from the Colesworth shelves. Maybe Lindt is a contender but like 3x more expensive than the Aldi stuff.

Aldi goat cheese, both the sliced and spreadable is hard to beat. I will not compromise on Omo washing powder.

Aldi pasta, I think itâs Remono or something. Cooks just as well and comes out perfectly al dente just like the more expensive Barilla brand.
Also I love their organic pasta sauce because itâs cheap and itâs so tasty.

the aldi pasta absolutly SLAPS!
Duenan@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Itâs awesome, I love it!

Milk. Milk is milk. Iâm getting the cheapest one possible.
Lurpak. Nothing else comes close.

Aldi cream cheese (Westcare brand I think), better than any of the name brands at Woolies. The consistency is just right.
underwatermagpies@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
The Aldi Yogo is delicious. So much better than the original, which is already pretty good.
melbaboutown@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Woolies or Aldi peanut butter. Woolies, Aldi or Coles soy milk bricks. Coles and Aldi dark chocolate.
Uhh⊠generally it involves needing to buy brand because the generic contains an allergen or causes a reaction. So Balnea sorbolene bar âsoapâ and Cerave pump lotion.
bull@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Coles/Woolies or whatever is cheapest bottled water vs Mount Franklin or any other fancy brand. I donât even know if they still sell Evian here but Evian tastes weird. So does NestlĂ©âs one whatever thatâs called. Obligatory Fuck NestlĂ©.
Donât come at me with âjust drink tap water itâs great in Melbourneâ⊠I do when Iâm home⊠but I also go on road trips to places with less-than-amazing tap water and/or no chilled water.

The other Biscoff spreadâŠSpecloos or something like that. Much better than the proper one.
Nothing beats OG Nutella. Taking it a step further, Nutella made in Italy is the best.
Nath@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Horrified by the sugar content in Nutella, I bought the kids Nutino instead (12% sugar instead of 54%) when they were little. They now much prefer this brand to the original. Which has turned around and bitten me in the end as Nutino isnât always in stock when/where I need it.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Oh I know full well why Nutella tastes so good. Iâll have a small spoon of it rarely and that hits the spot.
useless_modern_god@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
G-Shock is a name brand that is still very much trustworthy and consistent.
dumblederp@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Coles 1kg tasty cheese is the best of the cheap cheeses.
Eagle@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
Yep, agree with you on this one.
Nath@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
What is âcheap cheeseâ in Melbourne? In 2016, it was $10/kg for the cheap cheese. In Perth, you can reliably get cheese for $8.50/kg. It went up for a while last year to ~$10ish but has come back down recently to $8.50 again.
My theory is dairy goods in general are cheaper here because we have competing local companies.
dumblederp@aussie.zone âš2â© âšmonthsâ© ago
By cheap cheese, Iâm referring to the house brands of Aldi/Coles/Woolies. Aldi is the worst, thereâs something wrong with that cheese.
