The thing people don’t realize is that we already have universal healthcare, but in a stupid, cruel way. A hospital will treat anybody, but they’ll go into debt for the amount they “should” have paid, and everyone who does pay already pays for them.
Also - If anyone reading this is uninsured and needs medical attention - get treatment and ignore the bills. Medical debt might as well be imaginary. It’s essentially ignored by credit bureaus. Hospitals sell it off to debt collectors who will try to get you to pay, but just end up selling it off again and again until it goes away 99.99% of the time.
Don’t ignore something potentially serious over financial concerns.

But in Canada you may have to wait to see a doctor! Checkmate socialists!

Which means you were triaged and are not among most critical cases. Wanna know what happens in an American ER when you aren’t visibly in critical condition?

I unironically recommend watching the gripping horror/drama that is “The Pitt” to understand how ERs work in the United States.

To be fair, it’s VERY exaggerated. Yes, many of the situations are realistic, and a lot of the actual medicine is very accurate, but the overall situation is pretty far outside the normal for any real hospital.
It’s like an entire year’s worth of worst case scenarios jammed into a “one shift” season.
