Mainstream media is just media consumed by the majority of people.
It has nothing to do with money.
But capitalism tends to rot anything it touches.
- Comment on Totally forgot there were subreddits that did this lol 4 days ago:
Yes, and it is up to those users to decide that by themselves.
Your job is to keep your instance clean, and defederate when your users want to. Not to police other instances and force them to do your bidding. You have no authority there. It is up to those instance mods.

Sure, first interactions maybe. But not when they already spoke a bunch and went on a date.

Still much less mainstream than gaming.

Was that your first playthrough or did you already know the map because you walked through it so many times before?

Portal 1 literally has a line on the floor you are supposed to follow, and only a handful of items in each room you can interact with.
Then there is also that you are only allowed to place a single color in the beginning. Limiting your options.
Almost like a good game explains the mechanics and actually helps the player grasp the concept of the game over a period of time, before throwing them into the deep end.

Nice Ad Hominem you got there.
Doesn’t change a thing though.

Have time for less controversial posts? Maybe a bit more positive things?

The fact that this webpage (run by an European agency) still exists proves the UN doesn’t deny it.
If such a website was hosted in China, you know the CCP would have taken it down. Same with Russia.

I just added .ml post to my ban list on uBlock. And now my feed is a lot less controversial and hate mongering.

They let them die of course.
What do you think they did?

The average human maybe.
But there is a significant overlap between the smartest rabbit and the dumbest humans.
Or was that with bears?

- Comment on Anon buys a TV without researching 1 week ago:
Yes, that is most likely what they were designed for.
But I wouldn’t trust these brands to not misuse them for other things.
- Comment on Anon buys a TV without researching 1 week ago:
Yes, just don’t buy those brands.
TVs are a minefield, but one that can be navigated.
- Comment on Anon buys a TV without researching 1 week ago:
They are also capable of running 24/7 without ever overheating, no matter the location. And have extra software specialized for signage.
It isn’t just a marketing gimmick.

Indeed, I remember people complaining about Roku for that.
My TLC hasn’t done so up until now.

Give it to your parents or some other older people who would use it just as a TV and buy yourself a decent TV.

The smart stuff isn’t the issue. It is all the connected shit.
There are plenty of smart TVs that you just don’t have to connect to the internet. Then it can’t download ads, be laggy or reboot because of updates, send all your data to the manufacturer, …
Just connect a small PC over HDMI like you would a dumb TV, and other than the slow boot it will work the same.
I can recommend TLC as a TV that doesn’t require an internet connection. But I would steer clear of ever connecting it to a network, the remotes have microphones in them.

Same. TCL is pretty good at being a dumb TV.
Wouldn’t trust it if it is connected to the internet though.
- Comment on I love my smart TV (From Mastodon) - Repost 1 week ago:
Mine too, just takes a while to go through all the google, android, TLC screens before it gets there.
Good thing that is only at the start.
- Comment on I love my smart TV (From Mastodon) - Repost 1 week ago:
You can do that with any small connected pc.
- Comment on I love my smart TV (From Mastodon) - Repost 1 week ago:
But you don’t need a dumb TV.
The smart part isn’t what makes those TVs bad. It is the internet connection that sends you ads, scrapes your data, causes lags and reboots because of updates, and makes your network less secure.
Just connect an other device over HDMI like you would a dumb TV, and never connect it to the internet like you would a dumb TV.
