No idea why my previous comment shows as quoted, but whatever
My argument is that if they were actually competing that would mess with the performative nature of the storytelling.

athlete Athletes compete or strive against others to attain a goal, TV wrestlers perform.

I don’t think anybody is asking to measure his feet, but these measurement devices are practically everywhere that shoes are sold, so it’s easy to check for yourself.

As a funny challenge I like to come up with simplified, stupid-sounding, 3-word search queries for complex questions, and more often than not it’s good enough to get me the information I’m looking for.
- Comment on Do you use your blinker in a car? 1 month ago:
I used to try to use them 100%, but there are so many situations where it’s completely unwarranted (in my specific driving circumstances). So I guess I default to using my indicators, but I try to use them the right way, i.e. before a lane change rather than after I’ve started to commit.
Also, I used to put on my indicator for a lane change nice and early, but dear god the way these cars warn about your blind spot being occupied, holy shit. Music turns down, loud beeping, it’s madness.

No, but only because I rarely pull out of a driveway or parking spot into any sort of traffic. Parallel parked on a road, though, sure.

Minecraft has only been around for 15 years, so I would think the generation that never knew a time without Minecraft would be about that old, as well.

The ONLY way the original show should have ended was with Dexter being convicted or executed.

My graveyard of abandoned games grows almost as quickly as my library.
I recognize this as novelty-seeking behavior, but I think I’m discerning enough now that I get my money’s worth, generally speaking.
- Comment on Teardown to Get Multiplayer Later in 2025 2 months ago:
This is why I shamelessly cheat in single player games. Most of the time I’m just trying to make the game more fun for myself, and one of those ways is to skip past the parts I don’t enjoy.
This definitely backfires sometimes, but if I can squeeze more enjoyment out of it before I put it down (almost certainly forever), I will.
- Comment on Could Trump's "Protecting Children from Chemical and Surgical Mutilation" order defund vasectomies? 3 months ago:
I don’t think so. It’s a pretty barbaric practice, so it deserves strong language. I suspect the only reason it’s still prevalent in America is the momentum of long-standing tradition. There’s no reasonable justification for performing unnecessary surgery on a newborn’s genitals.

Yes, it’s using the common film versioning differentiator, calling it the Encore Cut.
- Comment on Crocodile Dundee | New 'Encore Cut' removes footage from original film 3 months ago:
If I was re-releasing art that didn’t age well, especially if the part that aged like milk was otherwise insignificant, I would probably alter it as well. It’s not changing anything that’s already out there, it’s just a newer version.

- Comment on Heroes of Hammerwatch II Launch Trailer 4 months ago:
I liked the first one better. I guess I was just looking for the rogue-like fix of “failing forward” on subsequent runs, but the gameplay loop is much wider on the second one and that didn’t quite satisfy me the same way.

- Comment on Ridley Scott Defends 'The Martian' As a Comedy 4 months ago:
Listened to the book and watched the extended cut just the other day. It’s quite funny, definitely part of Andy Weir’s charm, but it’s far more dramatic a story than it is a comedy.
Some of the longer, reflective scenes in the extended cut give it a more somber tone, but they don’t actually add anything to the story.
