- Comment on I have been told ever since I was a little shit that when you die you go to heaven first wait in line for St Peter to judge you at the pearly gates? Is this in the Bible? I thought god did judging 1 day ago:
Oh so we are all already in hell. Got it.
- Comment on Cynthia Erivo calls out fans who made their own Wicked poster 4 weeks ago:
If it was her decision that her full face should be on display, the backlash should be evidence enough that someone else gets paid to make those decisions, not her.
The original looks boring. She has absolutely no emotions on her face. There’s no mystique, no ‘wickedness’. Even the composition looks like something a high schooler in Photoshop class would make.
The edit isn’t perfect either. But at least it pays homage to the original in more than just image. It adds that mystique back, and makes her look more menacing.
What it truly boils down to is ego. Although the edit is better, and so many people agree on it, it doesn’t show her full face. And she can’t let that go.

Honestly from the limited knowledge I have, Mongolians seemed to be the one of the chillest of invaders. They gave you a clear choice, let us rule you or die. And once they ruled you they allowed many freedoms that crusaders and colonizers didn’t. Their tactics were brutal and I think that’s why people see them as so evil.

The meme format doesn’t really work, but the joke they’re trying to make is that even though they did all these terrible things, it was never because of religion. In fact, they just didn’t give a fuck in what you believed in. Genghis even allowed religious figures to be exempt from taxation.
- Comment on Every show with a suicide now has a disclaimer with a suicide hotline at the beginning. Is there any evidence that these warnings make a positive difference? 2 months ago:
Suicide comes in many different flavors. The most common in my limited experience is desperation. If you are so utterly desperate for literally anyone to listen to you, I don’t see how it would hurt. Especially since there’s such a positive stigma surrounding the hotline. I personally know a couple of people that the hotline helped.
- Comment on Borderlands' theatrical run grinds to a halt with just $31 million worldwide, which is barely enough to cover the marketing costs 2 months ago:
Because the show writers are the same that wrote the game, last of us has a very strong advantage. They can’t deviate from the plot and key elements because they are too invested in it. But they can change what they feel like is weaker, or wouldn’t work as well in a show format. And its really noticable if you played both the game and the show. They’ve discussed how they already planned it to be a two season series, but they also mentioned if they have enough inspiration and they can figure out a way to make a third season that stays within the spirit of the story line, and they honestly enjoy it then they will.
With the first season being as good as it was, I have complete and utter faith in them.

Yeah, I’ve long since stopped using Google. Theres not any search engines I’ve found that mimic Google in its height, but many of them are better than what Google is now. Even bing.

If you read it, the mod certainly didn’t beg. They just mentioned that they’re still blocking bots and to not be discouraged from posting original content.
Also I find it highly doubtful that the mods of that subreddit are concerned about shareholders. Why would a mod care about money when they’re not even getting paid? They most likely just care about keeping the community alive.
Not to take away the point. Which I think is something most Lemmy users have realized ages ago, reddit is so full of repost bots that it makes gallowboob look like a saint. So much in fact that after two days, not a single original post has occurred in a subreddit with a reported 17 million followers.
- Comment on How come it seems for the past decades the Catholic Church has been plagued with sex crimes especially among young boys? How long has this been going on? Or did I just miss something up. 2 months ago:
Personally I feel like it happens less often. Catholic really have a reputation. I’ve only ever heard ‘altar boy’ to mean a young boy who’s being groomed and taken advantage of. I have no fucking clue what an altar boy really is.
Whoever it definitely still happens with protestants. Usually with youth pastors (surprise, surprise).

- Comment on Anon wants American companies to make a good RPG 2 months ago:
North America*. Besides that, people often group Canadians and Americans together quite often. The two countries are very similar culturally. I have seen it become more and more common to say North Americans when talking about things culturally. When it comes to politics or the specific country itself, of course it makes sense to separate them.

People may think he’s crazy, but part of psychedelics is hypersensitivity. I doubt he could actually see in the dark and smell landmines, but his brain probably recognized very small details and fabricated hallucinations based on what little he did pick up on.
- Comment on YouTube is dedicated to making itself worse; destroys SponsorBlock with ad injection changes 4 months ago:
If you don’t use YouTube, you’re also screwing over the content creators you enjoy. You can cause harm to a company in many ways. Stop using a site prevents them from making money off of you. Preventing them from actively making money off of you while you’re still using the site actively takes money away from them. It is double sided sword because you’re also not actively supporting that content creator. However, if they don’t have another platform to post on, you can instead buy merch, donate, or simply help the algorithm boost their content by watching their content.
I don’t disagree with you. YouTube should no longer be a viable business. Something else should step in and rival them. But since that doesn’t look like it’s going to happen, I’ll be happy running adblocks, and letting them not recoup their server and operation costs from me.

Just from what I found, swamps are wetlands with woody vegetation being what DOMINATLY inhibits it. So if it’s mixed, find out what there is more of. If it’s 50/50, I guess the universe collapses.
And a wetland with a neutral ph is just called a neutral wetland.
- Comment on Nerding out in group is fun tho 7 months ago:
This is the craziest rhetoric I’ve ever heard. People love hearing interests from a fanatics perspective. If you have an almost unhealthy interest in something, test the waters. See how much the recipient is interested in hearing you talk about this, and if they are, go all out. I’ve learned so many interesting and niche things I never would have by engaging with people with hyper fixated interests.

We don’t actually promote higher levels of dopamine as far as I know. Dopamine agonists work by mimicing what dopamine does to your nervous system. It doesn’t actually produce any more. Also you can be given dopamine intravenously. It is mostly used to raise blood pressure in newborns. But you are right. For other uses, its smarter to mimic it, because of how short it lasts.
We do, however, promote a higher concentration of serotonin with SSRIs. We do that by blocking natural inhibitors that destroy serotonin after being used. This way we can use them more before they die off.
