I guess etymologically it would just mean man-human. So it technically works

They’ll probably kill off his character in the first scene then leave us with the cheaper actors for the rest smh
- Comment on Anon wants to be a vampire 5 months ago:
People have more or less completely forgotten that vampires are meant to represent the monstrosity of an unchecked aristocracy/wealthy upper class. They sold their souls for power and now live exclusively by feeding off those beneath them. You don’t just ‘become’ a vampire like you don’t just ‘become’ rich. You can certainly become enthralled to a vampire though

I have often likened Fromsoft and Bethesda in the way that while Bethesda outsources their bug fixing to the community, Fromsoft outsources their story to the community. In both cases the community adds more than there really is and acts like the developer earned the credit.

Very well said, did you ever read the sort-of-prequel portrait of the artist as a young man?
- Comment on It's okay, Buddy 5 months ago:
The thing i always think about is that qoute from Virginia Wolfe where she likens the writing to a schoolboy doing stunts for the sake of getting attention. I remember thinking that was exactly how it felt while I was reading Ulysses, it felt like a highschool creative writer mashing things together without considering whether it was actually good or not.
However im not going to sit here and pretend im an objective critic. The book is obviously famous and important for a reason. I’m interested to know how it saved your life, if you feel like sharing

You know how when you’re studying literature you’re generally supposed to assume that everything is intenional and there’s nothing just thrown in for no reason … Well when you read Joyce, it’s really really hard not to feel like he’s just doing things for the sake of being pretentious and obtuse.

Boy that would seriously mess with the narrative of this comment section if that were the case
- Comment on An Interview with Lola De La Mata about tinnitus 6 months ago:
I got pretty severe tinnitus after getting in an accident last year and it’s by far one of the most frustrating things I’ve ever experienced. However, what really saddened me after i got it was learning how relatively little research is going into developing treatments despite the overwhelming amount of people who have to deal with it every day. The idea of living with this the rest of my life is extremely depressing.
- Comment on What is the absolute max level of ear protection you can get? 6 months ago:
I don’t exactly know whether this strat is redundant or not but I wear noise cancelling earbuds with full earmuffs overtop and it seems to do a good job. Plus i get the added benefit of being able to listen to music and hear phonecalls while on a machine.

- Comment on Tomb Raider TV Series Written By Fleabag's Phoebe Waller-Bridge Ordered By Amazon Prime Video 7 months ago:
Is it just me or has the term “ordered by” become a lot more common recently? Like, im aware that studios have always demanded media be made out of IPs regardless of whether there are any stories worth telling. But when did they start using language that makes it read like im in a McDonald’s drive through?

Im not going to disagree with you, but i have this nagging suspicion that most people who think they are “night owls” are really just shining a phone light in their face every night and confusing their sleep cycle.

My general strategy is just to find the toughest, most muscular looking guy in the gym and ask for help. So far every single time they’ve turned out to be extremely friendly people who love explaining their hobby.

This is kind of the hot take going around right now but honestly duo has a lot of advantages. Huge selection of languages, gameified lessons, and the app is really streamlined and responsive.
Im not sure if its better or worse for learning than other apps, but i suspect “learning” a language has a lot more to do with personal drive and dedication than whatever app you chose to learn with
