While this is true, I don’t eat fish in general (don’t like the taste), so it’s more a sport than for food.
- Comment on Breaking the generational barriers 16 hours ago:
Honestly, as a kid I loved fishing, I recently started again, but I actually felt kind of bad for the fish. Maybe if this trend continues I’ll be a vegan in the next 20 years.
- Comment on Breaking the generational barriers 20 hours ago:
If possible I save the grease. My house is next to a river, so I made it a habbit to not just throw away food but feed it to the fish. Sometimes we have leftovers and it’s been a little too long to eat, so I throw it in the river.

What does that mean? Where I live you borrow a certain amount of money and you pay it back plus interest (in my case 3.5%), and that percentage is fixed for 20 years. In 20 years I expect to have paid most of that entire amount back and my house should be mortgage free
- Comment on Uber Eats or something idk 1 week ago:
I mean it more like if you would have borred 100K for a house in the 70s that was a lot of money, if you still live in that house you probably paid it back, but even if you didn’t 100K today isn’t that much money anymore
- Comment on Uber Eats or something idk 1 week ago:
What do you mean with “inflation was added to your mortgage rate”? The prices of houses do go up but this is mostly a problem for first time buyers, after that your current house has gone up in price too, so that helps with the next house. But if you buy a house and don’t move your mortgage is fixed for 20 or 30 years (unless you go without a fixed rate). So your monthly payment will stay the same, while hopefully your salary goes up.
- Comment on Uber Eats or something idk 1 week ago:
Not necessarily, if you own a home AND your pay slowly goes up to compensate (both of these unfortunately aren’t happening for a lot of people), relative to your income your mortgage goes down.
Or in more generic terms, inflation is good if you borrow money.

You can buy bags with fake mold, but people will probably see it and throw your food in the trash, so I don’t think it really helps.

- Comment on Anon likes trains 2 weeks ago:
In Europe when you book ahead of time and are not too specific about the dates you can fly much cheaper. If I want to go from Amsterdam to Barcelona I can get a much much cheaper flight. Why would I go for the option that is slower and more expensive?
I wish trains where cheaper I’d take them more often.
I once heard someone make the argument flying is cheaper because a plane can fly from one airport to almost any other airport. So when you own a plane you can use it in a much more flexible way. A train can only go over a fixed track, yes you can use switches etc. But when you build an airport basically any plane can go there immediately. For trains it doesn’t work like that. Make matters even worse in Europe usually train operators are national and most trains don’t cross borders beyond a few stations.

- Comment on Why do some people hate drinking water? 3 weeks ago:
Until a week ago I was like this, coffee, some water and in the evening 1 or 2 beers.
But about a week ago my big toes started to hurt while walking. Googled my symptoms and I’m fairly sure I’m developing gout. So now I’m trying to get at least 2 liters of water in.
My problem is mostly that I just don’t get thirsty during the day. Like some days I might only drink one litre in total and I don’t feel thirsty at all.

As a kid we always had shampoo and conditioner in the shower. Nobody used bodywash or soap. We washed our hair once in a while and thats it. We washed our bodies too, but just water. Anyway I’m in my 40s and still never started with bodywash, it’s seriously something you don’t need. I do use shampoo but that is more because I like it, it’s also unnecessary.

I get your point but there have been many cases of terrorism that was done by someone that already lived (usually legally) in a coutry. Like those assholes that steal a car or truck and just drive it into a busy street. Unfortunately intelligence agencies are a necessary evil.

In my case it was actually the port, well not really the port, but a lot of pocket dust had gotten into the port. I spend some time with a toothpick to clean everything out and it was fixed. When you think you got it all there is probably more.

It’s a different version of the tolerance paradox
The paradox of tolerance is a philosophical concept suggesting that if a society extends tolerance to those who are intolerant, it risks enabling the eventual dominance of intolerance; thereby undermining the very principle of tolerance. (Source Wikipedia)

Physical media yes, CDs or DVDs no. Most discs I burned are probably unreadable by now. I remember my favorite artist explaining how he probably had to stop making music because it just wasn’t financially viable. So I decided to buy all his albums (I had all the albums in mp3 format for years). Its about 10 years later, all the CDs are lost or destroyed (most in my car). I still have a NAS with the original mp3s I downloaded 20 years ago.

I bought bee flower seeds, its a pretty large container (think half a Pringles can). I just sprinkle them around in my neighborhood. 😁. Can’t wait for the day weird flowers are starting to popup everywhere.

I just checked in NL when I search for cars 2010 or later and max 60K KM (50 isn’t an option on the site I used). I can find multiple small cars starting at 3000 euros. I selected a price range at 10K euros max and found almost 3000 cars, there are definitely decent options for way less than 20-30K
- Comment on Based on a true story 2 months ago:
You save up and get a second hand car you can afford. Why buy a new one, even a car with 30K miles or 50K KMs is a lot cheaper, while its still new enough to drive for a while without major repairs.

This is a tip for people that don’t drive automatic transmission, if you ever try it, put it in R and really floor it. The R stands for racing mode!

For me it’s the reason I started playing games again. Have been using Linux forever, didn’t wanted a dual boot etc. So when games started to work on Linux I stared to buy and play more and more.
Although recently it has mostly been openRTC without steam.

I’m very happy I live in a country where all consumer prices must include taxes. It’s so much better knowing what the real price is when you buy something.

Where do you live to be able to buy a house in cash after 3 years of working? Where I live the average appartment is about 400K euros and the average house is closer to 500K euros.
Maybe you can find something for 250K if you really buy something small that needs lots of work. But you still need over 80K a year excluding taxes, probably closer to 120K before taxes.

I work in software development, I understand website, webservices and the backend it all runs on at a pretty deep level.
But I never owned an Apple device. So whenever my wife (iMac user) has a problem and I try to help, I struggle with all the basic shit. I don’t know the interface, don’t know the menu structure, don’t have muscle memory for basic key bindings (like copy paste).
Same with my parents, a few years ago my dad gave my mom his old iphone, didn’t do any factory reset etc. She used logged out his apple id and logged in hers. But the apps he installed refused to update, very little information from the device about the problem. They don’t know you shouldn’t do this and just give me the phone and say apps don’t update. It took me a while to figure out what the hell was even going on.
