  This article falsely assumes the only options are halting traffic to wait for an opening or dash faster than speed of traffic until the end of the lane closure then just expect someone to allow room so kinda a bad explanation of zipper merge and proper driving etiquette

  Not sure if you took drivers ed but zipper merging is not zooming past stopped cars to last second dart over in the shoulder, it’s speed matching the lane you are merging into to weave in like a zipper. Crazy how even the name isn’t informative enough for people to understand the concept

  If AI makes you afraid for your job you should be doubly afraid because if current AI can replace your job then your job isn’t actually a real job it was only ever temporary

  There are tons of jobs that won’t be touched by AI for decades. I won’t see AI hurt jobs in my field for at least 40+ years. Rather than fixating on slowing AI we should be encouraging people to develop real skills a very simple robot cannot do. Humans will be building houses for the rest of the lives of everyone currently alive today

  Idk how often you go on Reddit but it’s extremely common there mostly in the locality subs. Like daily posts in just the few cities/states I’ve lived in so presumably happening across most of these subs so that’s not inventing something to make it sound worse it’s literally just happening in plain sight

  I usually explain the phenomenon of the internet similar to that of the printing press. It makes the smart people smarter (easier access to information) and dumb people dumber (they can’t detect misinformation and manipulation thus will trend towards the worst possible outcomes).   For all you know, people who use lemmy and preheat their oven to 350 on tuesdays and listen to XYZ music fall into a category of humans that allows them to also know your romance life and how to best target you in vulnerable areas of your life in ways you don’t immediately identify

  The reason to value your privacy isn’t “what is the first order effect of giving this information”. Privacy should be valued because you can’t ever get it back and can’t know the future so why bother giving up something that tech companies spend billions gathering from you just to save a 10sec walk to the kitchen. It’s never been about having things to hide or the mundane of what time you turn on your lights
