- Comment on Are datacenters in space more lucrative than on earth? 5 weeks ago:
Methinks the reason techbros want to put compute in space is to have it physically away from people. Normal data centers are right there to be smashed and torched in the event of widespread societal unrest. In space, it’s unreachable.

- Comment on Why do some people identify with a political party even if many of their views don't align with that party's platform? 1 month ago:
Because the fountain of evil in modern democracy is the first past the post electoral system. The natural outcome of FPTP is a 2 party system that can be as dysfunctional as possible yet still garner roughly half the votes. Any third party that fields candidates with more favorable manifesto will just sit the vote, effectively giving the vote to the opposing party. This means that in FPTP you’re invented to vote for the least worst party rather than the party that most aligns to your views.
Here’s a playlist all about electoral systems: youtube.com/playlist?list=PLej2SlXPEd37YwwEY7mm0W…

- Comment on Why are plug sockets region locked? 1 month ago:
Region locking is the wrong word to use. It is an intentional thing. For example, Blu-rays are designed in one physical and technical specification, but the specification purposefully prevents discs from working worldwide.
Electrical plug and socket designs came about organically as domestic electricity is developing. Economics-wise almost all electrical appliance purchases would be for use in the region where it’s purchased so it makes the most sense for them to come with the plug type where it’s being sold.
