That’s a good point. Did that boss never drink coffee from anywhere else? Surely they would know what a normal one would taste like.

Yes, the widespread misuse and abuse of antibiotics is a huge problem. Don’t tell the antivax RFK fans about it though, you’ll give them new ideas.
Wouldn’t it be nice if more folk were just reasonable about things? Life would be so much easier and more fun.

Billions of them. Each tablet is a genocide. Ban antibiotics now!
(But, actually don’t.)

There was a time that you could download patches for offline PC games. The game developers/distributors put them up on their websites. I like the idea that you could download and archive them alongside the original game files so you can still have the fixed game long after the developers have gone bust and their site has gone.

At this point we should specify which list. Because, you know, that other list. Or do we just call that “in the files”?

As a man, I don’t justify my choice of peeing positions to anyone. I sit or stand if I want to, and anyone who doesn’t like it can fuck off and take their opinions with them.

This is also my concern. I have the XReal One Pro but without the camera attachment. Anyone who knows these glasses would be able to see that they don’t have the camera. But, if everyone starts thinking all glasses that look like this are secretly filming, many of them are unlikely to know the difference between me watching Netflix and me spy-filming.
- Comment on "I think Kirbati just gave up when it came time to name cities" 3 weeks ago:
Fun fact about these islands: they used to be 11 hours behind UTC, which put them on the same date as the US and almost a full day behind the rest of the Asian Pacific islands. So, they just re-drew the date line in a big curve to their East, so now they are 13 hours ahead of UTC and their date aligns with Asia instead of the US. Intuitively it seems impossible that anywhere could be more than 12 hours ahead or behind, but then Kiribati came along. Must have driven Santa mad having to entirely re-plan his route.

100g is near enough 4oz. So, just remember 4oz per person and you’re good.
I don’t usually measure the water, but 1l of water is just under 2pints. And 10g of salt is more than I’d use, but I guess that’s about just under 1/2 Oz.

This probably depends on the country, but being married can make some official processes simpler. For example, if a married person dies there are certain things that just default to their official spouse unless otherwise specified in a legal will.
This kinda makes your point about it being a financial arrangement, with a bit of a legal one in there too I guess.
I also think it sometimes makes things easier where kids are involved during official processes.

When asked why God would do such a thing, the answer is usually “To test your faith”.
I was brought up Christian as a child, and went to church, but this answer is a prime example of what ultimately turned me away. Such behaviour didn’t fit the image of God in my mind. My version of God was pure, loving and trustworthy, and wouldn’t scatter “tests of faith” and other such trickery around my world.

- Comment on there is a special place in hell for these scientists 4 months ago:
Yes, but IIRC they just happened to be the location of the hell portal that humans disturbed, and hell started leaking out. The depiction of Phobos and Deimos as hell-like was after the leakage. The third part of original Doom was back on Earth when the leakage had spread there, and it looked exactly like the hell of the Mars moons.
I wouldn’t bet money on that being exact, but that’s how I remember it.

It was a joke. You see, I was suggesting that a place with lots of sharks might be called “Shark”, in keeping with the point of the original post.
I am aware that most shark attacks are due to mistaken identity, but it wasn’t meant to be taken too seriously.
Perhaps the reason sharks came to mind before any other animals is because I read this article a couple of days ago: standard.co.uk/…/surfer-bitten-in-half-7232230.ht…
It stands out because the way it was reported makes it sound like the sharks executed a coordinated attack on the surfer. But, again, I didn’t expect to get cross-examined on what I intended to be a humorous remark.

The dissonance with Trump is astonishing. The Arctic is recently becoming more important strategically due to ice disappearing, and yet he’s one of the biggest and most stubborn climate change deniers.

- Comment on Latitudes 7 months ago:
It’s still an odd way to compare temperatures:
- Double of 1 degree is 2 degrees, so not very different.
- Double of 30 degrees is 60 degrees, so wildly different.
- Double of -20 degrees is -40 degrees, so a lot colder instead of warmer.

Another reason they choose to demonise immigrants is because they can spin rhetoric that energises the working and middle classes together, like a 2-for-1 deal.
They convince the working classes that immigrants are stealing their jobs and abusing benefits. They convince the middle classes that immigrants cause more crime.
They have influence over social media algorithms to ensure that each demographic gets the message that most infuriates them.
Finally, with all the hate stirred up, their chosen political allies/pets can make a promise to crack down on immigration and gain the votes for both demographics in one go.
