EA didn’t do that, GOG did right? Sure EA may have collaborated but they didn’t do the work.
EA restored seven classic games (mostly Wing Commander titles plus Road Rash) from archival master tapes in their vault and released modern anniversary editions in collaboration with community modders

Give never seen GOG improvements to a game also get added to the Steam version. Has that happened before on other games?

First time for everything. When GOG announced these upgrades they also said this was the first step toward their publisher efforts. It sounds like they’re starting up a publishing arm using these games as their first release. So in that context, yes it makes sense that they would release these on other platforms.
The showcase even stated that GOG worked with modders and other developers to get this work done. Plus, GOG had been doing this type of work for a while now with their preservation program.

ULTIMA UNDERWORLDS? ?? Fuck yeah!

This was my introduction to RPGs. No idea how it will feel to play now, but definitely need to give it a try just for the nostalgia.

I only learned of them in detail recently from Majuulars retrospectives. I played a fair amount of underworld and it was great. The movement feels very organic. It was way ahead if it’s time.

Wonder if they require the EA launcher
Peffse@lemmy.world 3 days ago
All the ones I could see on ea’s website made it to GOG, which I don’t think allows launchers tied to accounts, so it’s possible they don’t.

The only one I care about is Road Rash. The Wing Commander games have long been available on GOG already.

Not with high quality footage

I was ready to throw down some more money for all the work they did to restore these games, but then it looks like GoG automatically gifted me these anniversary editions for all of the games that I already owned.

EA sold out, meh

So they’re testing whether 7 movie players get downloaded or 1 actually game? Is this AB testing?
Sadly I owned Wing Commander back in the day. I must have played it for at least an hour all up.

Right after the news of BioWare’s death. Hmm looks like a PR move to me.
ComradeMiao@lemmy.world 3 days ago
Bioware has barely released any descent games in over a decade. EA did not kill them.
