When is the best time to leave your dog in the car without getting a window smashed from a wannabe hero? Info Inside

My dog is a bc. He rides with me everywhere but he loves the winter for some reason. That whole back end of my SUV is like a giant play room for him. All toys, some bones, and a small comforter. I am always concerened that one day a person is going to see my Buddy and smash the windows in the car in summer when the air is on. Or winter when a little bit of heat is on. And yes I will say it i am a big pushover for animals.

Not sure, but I think if anyone seeing that the dog is fine, they’re liable for any damage caused. Put up a sign or something to make it obvious that there’s no need to try be a hero today. Any damage caused can only be defended if they were obviously acting to help in an emergency - ignoring signage does not constitute an emergency.

…are you leaving the car running while you aren’t there? Because if so, I don’t think your biggest concern should be getting your window smashed.

  Typically I do if I am getting gas and have to walk in to pay. But we had to quit wal-mart because hero wannabes

You have to leave signs.

There are new cars that have Dog Mode, that keep the car from getting in the hundreds of degrees.

  Yeah we can do the obvious and look back at a 10,000 years of human history where dogs were always kept in climate controlled homes for their protection.

Put a thermometer in plain view and tape your phone number to the window as a backup in case someone is unable to see the thermometer, or your AC has malfunctioned and there is an actual issue.

The Australian law is no more than ten minutes on a day over 28 Celsius.

That said for me it depends on the dog and how the dog is feeling right then. My dig is half Chihuahua, he’ll like on the concreted in the backyard on 40+ days when everyone is posting about how it’s dangerous for dogs to be out in the heat. I’ve known a bunch of kelpies - Australian working farm dogs - that are just fine in the heat as long as it’s not extreme.
