Like, a telescope will show the proof. Look at the moon, all the landing sites are on the planet facing side.

They’ll just move the goalposts. When my sister went to QAnon crazy she started spouting all sorts of bullshit like the moon landing being fake.
I pointed this out to her, and she just insisted that later moon missions were real and planted evidence for the faked early ones. I also pointed out OP’s point (if the landing was faked, the USSR would have called out that bullshit) but she insists she’s smarter than the KGB.
I don’t speak with her anymore.

My favorite thing is “We wouldn’t have had the technology to go to the moon in 1969”
So Apollo 12 (1969) 14 (1971) 15 (1971) 16 (1972) 17 (1972)
Were all fake too?
So we faked the first moon landing and then proceeded to fake 5 more moon landings in 3 years?
That sounds real smart
Mr_Fish@lemmy.world 1 day ago
That only works if you believe the moon is real, which a shockingly high number of people don’t

I’ve got cheese in my fridge, I can stare at that

Wait. What?!

Oh look we got another flat mooner here

Yes, but no.
As you’re well aware, no telescope on Earth can see the leftover descent stages of the Apollo Lunar Modules or anything else Apollo-related. Not even the Hubble Space Telescope can discern evidence of the Apollo landings. The laws of optics define its limits.
CommissarVulpin@lemmy.world 1 day ago
Correct me if I’m wrong, but I don’t think any Earth-based telescope would be able to see anything we left at the landing sites.

Yep, the article mentions as much. You’d have to trust public access to NASA telescopes, which no self-respecting conspiracy theorist would, of course.

The soviet premier to the yanks, upon hearing this : oh dear. Oh precious.
To their scientists : you fucking donkeysKlear@quokk.au 1 day ago
Not “another happy landing”?

Explanation: During the Cold War, the USA and USSR competed in many areas to ‘prove’ whose system was superior. One such area was the so-called “Space Race”, wherein both sides competed for prestigious ‘first achievements’ in space. The USSR put up the first satellites and people into space, but the USA was the first to land people on the moon.
… for some reason, an enduring minority in the US has continued to believe that it was a ‘hoax’ and ‘faked’, for gods only know what reason. The USSR, by contrast, was watching the whole affair very closely - once it was apparent that the mission was a success, genuine congratulations were extended, and samples of moon rocks were shared with USSR when the mission touched down. After all, the competition was about the prestige - science knows no borders*!

It’s a litmus test for “how American are you?”
Cause only someone butt pained about an American accomplishment brings it up.
ThunderQueen@lemmy.world 1 day ago
What do you mean? I know a lot of MAGAts that truly believe it was faked but are all in on the American Expirement. In fact, the only people ive ever met that thought it was faked were “patriots”
