One of you is getting paid, though.

Or maybe both? I don’t judge.

So one is job and the other is just a hobby?

You ever met a healthy therapist? I sure haven’t

Psychotherapists are conceptually like if your car broke down constantly and every mechanic told you they don’t know what’s wrong so you went to get a degree in mechanical engineering so you can do it yourself. It didn’t help, but you still have the degree now so might as well put it to use now lol.

I was interested in the field until I realized this.

Sometimes I’m not sure if we’re doing therapy sessions or dual worry sessions but you know what it’s probably fine

If I was talking to a therapist about modern events and the literal fascism that has taken control of our country, and they aren’t worried in the slightest, or worse, try telling me I shouldn’t worry about it… Then it’s time for a new therapist.

There’s no medicine or therapy that can make me feel ok with what’s happening right now.

Yeah that’s not good. The good therapists I’ve had definitely had some crazy that was visible below the surface and I could tell when I hit on something that they worry about, but they kept it under control and never made my session about themselves.

It’s therapists in social situations where you see the real crazy in them

I’ve had a couple of people ask for I stomach what I do for a living (acute inpatient psychiatry) and one of my answers to one of the aspects is that a lot of this was going to happen to them anyway and they may as well have at least one person there who’s been there and won’t be a asshole about it (or any more than I haveto be anyway). Also everybody’s a mental health advocate who wants the poor sweet depressed babies to be loved more until a homeless schizophrenic on PCP starts wiping period blood on their car while yelling about how Obama filled their vagina with spiders.

It’s just is what it is. People get it or they don’t. Someone has to do this work. You don’t see people stim off your blood after they’ve finally succeeded in lacerating you and change over night…but I think maybe after a few years these things get weirdly mundane and… I am fine with it though. It’s fulfilling.

ADHD and anger issues apparently scares therapists. “Sorry my issues are a bit more complex than thinking my 3lb pampered dog hates me.”

Well they let the damaged people come to them I guess

A good therapist will not tell you what they think your issue is.

    Yes, but like…for money.
