    The metric gallon is part of America’s implementation of the metric system. There’s also metric feet and metric pounds.

      You joke, but we learned “tons” and “metric tons” in elementary school.

      I assume it’s the reason “metric” is used as an adjective this way.

  Aren’t those thermos specifically designed so you don’t have to drink it on one go? I’d assume the person fills them and then has a sip every so often so they don’t have to leave their desk every 30 minutes to get water.
