- Comment on Do you feel like you've reached the end of what the world has to offer? 6 days ago:
The question was do I feel like I’ve reached the end of what the world has to offer.
No, and as an example of what I find enriching: music, books, TV, film, dance, poetry, news, science, games - other people would count sports… even if you find between 51–99.9% of entertainment of any and all kinds unenriching and unentertaining, then you still find some things meet that, and thus have not reached the end of everything in the world.
My point being with such hyperbole: no, no one has reached the end
- Comment on Do you feel like you've reached the end of what the world has to offer? 6 days ago:
frequently, yes. You can’t convince me you’ve never been entertained and enriched by entertainment
- Comment on Do you feel like you've reached the end of what the world has to offer? 6 days ago:
I doubt I could even make a dent in the amount of art, music, theatre, film, TV, fiction, dance, and reading about scientific studies made only this year so far if I was trying to consume and experience everything.
Let alone everything from the last 200 years. So, no, even without leaving my house there’s enough new things to last a lifetime

- Comment on WHY 6 days ago:
I meant it colloquially - like a long time ago - but fair point. More accurately, it was introduced about 100-150 years before there was a linguistic trend for fruit to be called fruit and not apples.
- Comment on WHY 6 days ago:
to be fair, that’s a modern take. in antiquity it was so ignoble it was given the generic name for a fruit/vegetable.
a modern version might be more akin to “dirt thing”

because you mentioned the kernel I was riffing off the Linux copypasta
I’d just like to interject for a moment. What you’re refering to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called Linux, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project.
There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use. Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run. The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called Linux distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux!

it makes more sense when Christians were a persecuted minority, executed on sight by the Roman empire. You’re sharing in a symbol of sacrifice that could itself get you killed.
But that was 1500 years ago.

I tried to Google a legal answer here and basically there is none because no LEA will admit that their cops ever give contradictory orders, so on paper there is no problem to be solved and thus no solution is needed.
From what I gather, though, movement is worse than stillness, and if ever a confusing situation arises, it’s better to freeze with your hands visible than do anything else.

I understand, similar to “That’s what they say”, which is what I was idiomatically using “they” as in my original comment. I don’t really think it needs this much scrutiny.
- Comment on Let me just tune up real quick 3 weeks ago:
“They” being the sources that the AI ingested to produce this output. AI is a word association machine, not a research tool. If people (“they”) call “tuning relative to A4=440Hz” “tune A to 440” AI will repeat it.
I’m just saying, while the OP is technically correct, one wouldn’t apply the same requirements on conversation with a human, which AI is built on.
- Comment on Let me just tune up real quick 3 weeks ago:
Tbf they meant relative to the Stuttgart pitch. Humans would also refer to an orchestra tuning to concert pitch “A440.”
