…I mean, take out the “in America,” really.
Agreed. As a Canadian I should not have to protect my democracy from the president either.
People surrender enormous amounts of personal autonomy to their bosses, their landlords, and their political leadership
Bosses, landlords, and political leaders pool all their power under a Unitary Executive position with entirely unchecked authority
Chief executive abuses the office
New chief executive abuses the office
Even newer chief executive abuses the office
The latest chief executive abuses the office
Some dummy with a sign “It’s not supposed to be like this!”
God damn, read a fucking book. For every moment you’ve been alive it has been like this.
Some dummy with a sign “It’s not supposed to be like this!”
I mean, it’s not supposed to be like this.
Yes, the people are supposed to hold politicians accountable. This attitude of ‘I don’t want to have to pay attention to politics’ from liberals is fucking wild. This is exactly why they don’t know the Dems were supporting most of the same Trump policies, but quietly.
Just go back to brunch.
Ever since the executive branch started to get more powerful that’s like the main person democracy has needed defending from
Ever since the executive branch started to get more powerful
The Jefferson Administration was a mistake.
every presidential democracy consistently suffers from a takeover by the president. it is an Internet flaw in presidential systems
I knew skynet would crop up eventually
Wrong. That’s absolutely what your responsibility as a citizen is, to ensure the protection of democracy from everyone in any position capable of undermining it.
We had a pretty close call there. For a while, the president was pushing hard for a federal online censorship program that got caught lying as soon as it was formed, and also trying to get votes counted with no voter ID unlike every single other democratic country. The administration was also paying bail for protestors who burned down random businesses and pushing for prosecution of people who acted in self defense. Luckily we didn’t re-elect him and his handlers after that.
Hay guys the magas are starting to show up finally. This should be fun.
The president also pardoned a bunch of domestic terrorists, screwed over our farmers, and undermined our energy security and trade domination, not to mention replacing every federal job he could with incompetent buffoons. I hate that old white guy.
Think not what your country can do for you.

If America saw what America was doing to America, then America would invade America to liberate America.

not as long as america supported americas economic and political interests. America has never cared about “democracy”.
raltoid@lemmy.world 3 days ago
The election system makes that blatantly obvious. First-past-the-post voting and a two party system is pretty anti-democratic in and of itself, and was derided by George Washington as one of the great evils of history.

We should tell Americans there’s oil in Texas. Liberate them or something
Nelots@lemm.ee 3 days ago
Idk. Does America got an oil?

This is a counterpoint to the sign in the post.

Isn’t it kind of already doing that

I heard once that project Cascadia (wherein the west coast separates from the rest of the US) was a Russian-backed effort to destabilize the west and… I hate to say it but I’ve been like “fuck it, you won, get us out of here.”
