I bet you have turned on the don’t show bots option in settings, and you’ve gotten 7 replies from bots.
How come it shows that I have 7 messages? Then when I click on it it shows nothing?

Or the reply has set different language (even if it’s written in English) then what you have enabled in profile settings.

Sometimes federation takes time, or it can be blocked users or instances.

Make sure to click on “show all” button (or equivalent button of your app). Once visible, mark as read so they won’t remain as “active” message.
I had this behavior with my app that was considering the messages read (so hidding them by default when going to the messages tab) once i opened it while not marking it read on lemmy side (hence the 7 unread messages displayed)
Took me week to find how to solve that :-)

Sometimes I get that too, you can try sorting by unread and then go through the various tabs. Or press the “mark all as read” button and hope it goes away

Ive found that sometimes hitting reply even if you dont makes the notifications disappear

Those comments might be set to a language. You can set a default language on your account settings

I think it’s OP’s lack of communication skills. It’s trying to tell op to be less vague.
