- Comment on I am about to board a flight. What sequence of events would occur if (by chance) for no apparent reason a window got completely smashed out? 6 days ago:
i don’t think its possible (but i’m not an expert on that) due to the sudden differential of pressure you encounter. I assume it’s like being punched.
Best is to react quickly for yourself, then look and help the people around you…
If plane go quickly under 10000 feets, the unconscious people will wake-up (normally)

it’s usually -40°c outside when you are in cruise altitude.
The mask can produce “oxygen” for about 15 to 20 min max. You have to be below 10000 feets to be “ok” without mask (it will be like being in a montain at high altitude).
Without putting the mask, you loose conciousness in about 30sec.
Note: this scenario is the worse in term of decompression event. Usually this type of failure would happen during the ascent.

Steve has no patience for people or company that lack empathy and abuse people.
- Comment on If the EU uses online signature for European Citizen's Initiative, why isn't voting online for elections or policies not allowed? 5 weeks ago:
It is still a valid concern here and it’s why we still vote physically.
We also put our paper choice in a envelope, operation done from a one person polling booth. People in the voting room make sure everyone, including couples, are not watching or forcing a choice to another.
The vote is always done the Sunday to give the time for the most people to go voting (a lot of enterprises and shops are closed the Sunday). And if you work, your boss can’t block you to leave few hours for voting.
- Comment on If I'm stuck in the same area as someone who is clearly sick (runny nose, coughing etc) is there some combo of short/long breaths or nose/mouth breathing that's a better defense against catching it? 2 months ago:
Well, get some covid masks in your bag at all time. Like a lot of us are doing since many years now… Don’t play with your health

Or, if can’t avoid it, use it but you cut the wifi and other crap and connect your own router on it.
I use the Turris Omnia since a good decade now, still supported, open source based, i can put some services on it (vpn, ssh, nas, speedtest, …), put some traffic rules / ports redirection, firewall, dns, hostname/ip per mac address, pihole, wifi conf, etc…
If i switch to another ISP, I change the box and everything rework quickly…
- Comment on How come it shows that I have 7 messages? Then when I click on it it shows nothing? 4 months ago:
Make sure to click on “show all” button (or equivalent button of your app). Once visible, mark as read so they won’t remain as “active” message.
I had this behavior with my app that was considering the messages read (so hidding them by default when going to the messages tab) once i opened it while not marking it read on lemmy side (hence the 7 unread messages displayed)
Took me week to find how to solve that :-)
- Comment on Why do many search engines seem to ignore operators (e.g. exact phrases, term exclusions, OR, etc.)? Is there a good reason for having a dumb 1997-level search logic that I'm not seeing? 5 months ago:
Wow, spent the last 30min to read everything. Thanks for sharing this, really interesting articles.

You don’t get it… Why we should be afraid of someone breaking our house?
Thiefs don’t carry weapons. If they were arrested with deadly weapons (including knife), that would add decade of prison time for them. It’s being like that since centuries…
Also: they breaks home when we are not home.
So weapons are useless. You are not more safe with them. It’s just a way to escalate a dangerous situation to a deadly situation.

/agree
After some time, you just shield yourself automatically with several layers of protection and have several ready-to-use answer so everything is fine (spoiler: it’s not)

It’s opt-in if i remember well and you can avoid sharing it with 1 click in the options.
For the devs, that help them a lot to tune the difficulty of the game in some sectors and find what to improve… For once it’s not to sell you something, just to improve our experience.
