Jesus Christ I HATE watching this US news, but I cant look away! Some folks are already calling it and I think I might throw up. Thats not a joke or an exaggeration.

Iâm very thankful for our electoral system.
Salvo@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
We just need to educate our electorate that we canât âThrow away your voteâ by preferencing a special-interest party above a Major partyâŚ
Bottom_racer@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
Like my gran used to say (she thought she was upper class)⌠âI deserve two votesâ even though she never read any policy. I once flippantly said maybe charlie (her doggo pug) should get one too and she was thrilled at the idea.

Yeah Iâm starting to get a bad feeling about it all. About to turn off notifcations and try to bury in work for a few hours
Seagoon_@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
I have friends in the US đ
Dalek_Thal@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
Itâs looking real ugly over there. People are talking about a red mirage, butâŚthat seems more and more unlikely the longer this goes on.
Dalek_Thal@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
Just saw someone talk about a republican house, senate and presidency altogether as a good thing.
Compared it to Obama. Obama had no interest in dictatorship. Republicans meanwhile keep getting real excited about Hitler.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
Itâs too early to tell
Nath@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
It is too early to be sure, but it took four days in 2020 to get a result and things looked a lot more purple than they do this time around.
Gibsonhasafluffybutt@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
Iâm definitely concerned, but I donât think I pay attention to it till tomorrow. Itâs really wracking my nerves.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
The fact that itâs this close speaks volumes of the US population.
Salvo@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
It is also how biased the US electoral system is to maintain the Status Quo.
Every time the Republicans get in, the cripple democracy a little bit at a time. When the Democrats get in, they donât do anything to roll back the damage.
It has finally come to the Endgame for US Democracy.
All we can do is make sure that our elected officials are aware that it is not something that we want in Australia.
MeanElevator@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
Have a friend who studied world history throughout uni. His statement about this is âAll empires must fallâ. This is the fall.
USA has been going down the toilet for some time, and the turds getting bigger.
Iâm gonna switch off the US crap and focus on our local (milder) shitshow.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
thinking on it I am not surprised
for 100 years the press and influencers have been making race an issue as a distraction to class , money and opportunity issues ( to stop the working class uniting , and yes, race is an issue )
the working class have genuine grievances and want a voice, sadly trump says he is their voice ( even tho thatâs a lie )
they donât want to hear more race issues
we need unity
MeanElevator@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
I donât disagree, but the GOP and Trump have not been the voice of the working class. The fact that enough people have been convinced that they are, is just sad.
This election was also about women issues, and that fell on deaf ears.
The media has a lot of responsibility for this shit show.
Seagoon_@aussie.zone â¨3⊠â¨months⊠ago
but fairness!! S/
the press are either cowards or love the money the drama of trump brings
in the meantime the independent voices in the media are getting shut down
just look at the drama of trying to bring this sub on lemmy under âcontrolâ
