Eh, ish. It used to be only four:
Something Awful
Ebaum’s World
YTMND
4 Chan
I mean they were some of the big ones, though digg, maybe newgrounds and even OG (no subreddits) Reddit was in the mix too
But you’re forgetting all the thousands of random phpBB/vBulletin/myBB/Invision/SMF forums run by passionate nerds with only around 20-30 other equally passionate nerds using them
I was hanging out on small phpbb forums and occasionally IRC. I didn’t use the internet in English back them though, which probably improved my experience quite a lot.
Something awful and YTMND I’ve heard about but I have no idea what they were, 4chan is a shit stain, and Ebaum I’ve never heard of before this comment. So clearly they were not that monopolizing.
Didn’t frequent any of them, I had several forums I frequented though
Now most forums are dead
There are Facebooks I remember
All my life, though some have changed
Some 4channer, not for better
Some have E-baum and some remain
All these places had their moments
Geocities and friends, I still can recall
Zombo dead and some are living
In my life, I love Lemmy more
Weebls stuff
if you were american ? forums and websites all over the world thrived and then smartphones came out and a combination of reddit and social media killed it

Umm actually we also had Lemon party. But plebs like you probably haven’t heard of it.

I’ve heard of those, but never visited because I spent all of my bandwidth at zombocom

But what can you do at zombocom?
