A lot of people are having kids later in life. It’s tough to feel secure enough to retire at 50 when you have 2 preteens and a mortgage.
Even without kids, the math is tough - work 30 years (20-50) and then retire ~30 (50-80?). We’d need massive safety nets in place to make retiring at 50 tenable. I’m going to hit the labor market next year and am terrified by what I’m seeing out there

There’re online sketch comedy shows. Think collegehumor ( it’s become Dropout, which does mostly structured/edited improv now). But like there are a bunch of YouTube channels that do prewritten sketches - albeit usually much smaller scale.

I think this is another case of the word meaning different things. The agony that a person may experience and the sorrow of their loved ones. Some will celebrate that death.
The cessation of malignant influence from a powerful person, and the net progress towards a more inclusive, equitable, and just society. A lot of people are celebrating that death

It’s a weird one because it’s a huge expense but it’s also completely concentrated to a subset of the population for a subset of their life. I think it should have a public option. 2 toddlers, not infants, could cost us 50k/year

Definitely. I personally merge earlier, knowing it’s less efficient and will put me back relative to zipper merging - just to avoid the stress of trying to get in between potentially uncooperative mergees. But I also don’t get too mad at the mergers - maybe they’re in a legit hurry

I don’t actually think it’ll go to anyone who needs it - probably mostly another trump family grift. The thought experiment goes that he doesn’t actually pay any stochastic terrorists, he just convinces a whole lot of them that they’ll be taken care of if they pop off and cause enough chaos for the election to be cancelled. Used that way, 1.8B can go much further than it would for an organized / funded militia

I just saw a “financial advice” YouTube short that recommended 3.5% down payment and investing the rest in the stock market, assuming that the returns will exceed mortgage interest payments and fees. It’s a risky approach, but the rates aren’t necessarily predatory in the USA - instead they make you buy insurance (PMI) for if you default, which adds to your payments
