At least in my corner of the world, debit cards can be used anywhere online that requires credit cards, but at least some banks disable it by default so you have to enable online payments. 15 -20 years ago it was different and you HAD to have a credit card to buy shit off Amazon or Steam so most kids couldn’t get shit.

If you see the likes of BlackRock or Vanguard in the list, that’s mostly retirement funds, meaning it’s mostly old people retiring off those companies. Grandma is an Exxon-Mobil shareholder and a Meta shareholder and absolutely invested in the AI industry through her nvidia holdings. She just doesn’t know any of it, but all of it is being done for her benefit as part of the ownership class.

People over 55 own 73% of the US, heavily outweighing billionaires. Boomers alone outweigh billionaires assets by nearly 10x. Any time you see BlackRock, Vanguard, etc as major shareholders of a company, that means it’s mostly boomers’ 401ks and pension funds.
Gen X might be the last generation to retire in the US, for millennials it’s starting to look unlikely. There just aren’t enough people to exploit anymore. Ideally everyone should have 3 kids, but as an interim solution you can start importing workers from 3rd world countries.
Other western countries may not have it as bad with the imbalance, but most are growing worse over time.

The thing is the trained professional costs 300k a year (100k in low-income areas like Europe) to employ and a z.ai coding plan sub lowest tier is like 20 bucks a month and makes a ton of mistakes but works at least 10x faster so you get much faster iteration…

Palantir mostly does government contracts. If they haven’t done a traffic system yet, it means no government has asked them to. So this one is on the LA local government as much as it is on the AI companies.

The entire concept of retirement is the problem in an aging society, it only works with population growth because you need young people whose labour to live off of.

Not directly comparable dollar to dollar, American doctors and (traveling) nurses are paid amoral amounts of money in many cases. Would still be significantly cheaper overall than the current system.
